Divergent!

Who's going to see Divergent tonight/this weekend? DH and I are staying up WAY past our bedtime to go to the movies and see the 8pm showing tonight (closest theater is an hour away... womp!). Can't wait to hear what you all thought <3

  • I'd like to see it because of how much I loved the book, but I want to see what the reactions are first.

  • I still haven't read the book, and really want to. So I'm debating on going to see the movie before reading the book, or waiting till it comes out on DVD and reading the book while it's in the theatres.

You ladies will have to report back and say if it's close at all to the book. That may help my decision.

  • I was unimpressed by Divergent. I felt that they made it too obvious and predictable. DH never read the books and figured it all out at the beginning. I normally appreciate and like movie adaptations for what they are but this seemed like a dumbed down spoiler version of the real movie. Stick with the book ladies, the movie will break your heart.

  • I disagree. I liked it. Yes, it wasn't exact to the book and they changed a couple things they didn't need to. But I didn't hate the adaptation. DH liked it and he hasn't read the books at all. We both agreed it wasn't as good as Catching Fire or Harry Potter, but still not a bad movie.

  • I hated the book. I think I'm over dystopian teen fiction. Nothing can be better than The Hunger Games.

Hubby's work has a screening tomorrow. I have not read any of the books in the series, but they are next in my reading list. I am hoping there is a short waitlist for the e-book version.

Poppies717, I understand the dystopian teen fiction burn out. I used to teach middle school & high school English. Most of my time spent was teaching 7/8 grade.

Curriculum included: Ender's Game, The Giver, Anthem, Flowers for Algernon, "There Will Come Soft Rains"

I remember wanting to cry the year Twillight came out. I was thrilled students were reading, but had random students (boys included) asking me if I was "Team Jacob or Edward" and then wanting to discuss the pros/ cons of each.
