Paper Towns to be a movie

JG posted yesterday that they are making a movie of Paper Towns with the same screenwriters and producers as TFioS. And the guy who plays Isaac in TFioS is starring.

JG will be an exec producer, too. He said this time, if we don't like something about the movie, we can blame him!

This has me all verklempt.  IIRC, wasn't the female MC a little unlikeable? I want to like anything JG, but I think I remember being pretty frustrated with the MC.  Though, maybe that's the point?

ETA: Truly, I have faith in JG though.  With his involvement, I think it will probably be pretty great.

This was actually my least favorite JG book. But that's cool he's an exec producer.

This is weird.  I'm also not sure how we'll know whether or not this is exciting until we see how TFIOS turns out.

I think he did the "overexposure" thing. 

And, I know that this is a silly way to think, but I get annoyed when authors get famous from writing books that people love then they get too busy being famous to write more books.

Every time I see him talking about movie news or starting a new project on YouTube (a new series of Crash Course, the Art Assignment, Mental Floss, etc.), I'm tempted to yell at my screen, "Just write more BOOKS!" 

I tried to follow everything he did for a while, but lately I've only been watching Vlogbrothers videos so I don't get burned out on all things JG.

I'm also experiencing JG burnout.  He and Hank are too everywhere and just too...much...somehow.  Their schtick is starting to seem less like geeky, nerdy fun personality and more like an actual schtick.  I was really really less than impressed with the recent video Hank did about consent, especially given what's going on with DFTBA Records.

I haven't watched it (I had to quit the videos a while ago), but I've heard several other people say the same thing.

I liked Paper Towns a lot. It's in my top three JG books but I'm over the whole movie and overexposure thing.

Authors (esp. JG and Pat Rothfuss), stop talking, go back into your hole, and wrote some more! I know you have good ideas!

I agree with the bolded.  I appreciate everything they both have done up to this point but I wish that JG would write more books or publish even some short stories.  I want him to be more of an author than a spokesperson.

I just bought the Don't Forget to Be Awesome shirt from Motherhood Maternity.  I wonder if they got royalties from it.  It must be my circle of friends, but people have started asking what it means.

Also, did anyone donate to Project for Awesome? I know we were promised a short story or first chapter or something.  It hasn't been given out yet, right?  That was months ago.

I was late to the Nerd Fighter party so I'm haven't quite experienced the burnout yet, but I do wish he'd write more.

Nope. They don't. A lot of companies have started printing that on shirts, but it's not a phrase that Nerdfighteria owns, so they get nothing from it. People be stealin' for profit.

I'm going to do my best to make this short.  If I get anything wrong, feel free to correct me.  An adult (22) recording artist with DFTBA Records was accused of having coercive sex with an underage fan who he met through VidCon, which is as far as I can tell another Green Boys Venture.  She posted about it on Tumblr and other women started posting their experiences with other DFTBA artists.  Turns out several of them either had sex with underage girls or used their "fandom" to coerce women of age into sex.  It's been a big scandal and DFTBA Records has, of course, dropped all of those artists from their label.  

Hank then posted a Vlog Brothers video about consent that royally pissed off a bunch of feminists/librarians.  Possibly it pissed off more people, but the feminists/librarians are the only ones I follow on Twitter, so my info was all coming from them.  I watched the video and I can see where the rage is coming from.  He opens by telling people that if they can't handle the subject matter they should click his link to kitten videos.  Then he does his whole little schtick, just on the subject of consent.  It's done in the exact same tone as all their other videos, which comes across as really not taking the subject seriously, talking down to female fans by implying that they're too young to handle the subject when they're the ones it's happening to, and in general treating it lightly.  It didn't make me want to fly off the handle, but I think it would have actually had more meaning if he had toned things down and been up front and serious instead of doing his "thing".

I figured they didn't own it.  DFTBA shirts are all over CafePress and etsy, I'm sure a lot of those vendors either don't know or don't care about copyright laws.

I saw a little boy shirt at Osh Kosh that said "Made of Awesome." I think John made a video recently about why they chose not to copyright DFTBA.

Yeah, I read a thing or saw a thing where he talked about how if he copyrights DFTBA it means that Nerdfighters can't make and sell fan art either, it doesn't just stop corporations or whatever so he decided to not do it.
