Water dish question

Hi!  I don't usually post on this board, but I have an issue that maybe you guys could help me out with.  I have three cats and a 100 lb dog.  One of my cats is a major asshole and likes to tip over the water dish.  I was using a regular bowl... he tipped it over.  I got one of the water dispensers... he tipped it over.  I tried putting a big plastic tray underneath it, but he's still ruining my floors.  Any suggestions?  My dog drinks out of an elevated bowl, but the cats don't bother with that.

Re: Water dish question

  • we have one of the classic drinkwell fountains for our cats, my kitty used to be a PITA and do the same thing with her bowl. I can't imagine that she's be able to tip the drinkwell over.

  • Ditto the fountain idea, but if you'd like a bowl instead, perhaps a heavy ceramic one (unless you've already tried that)?  My parents have a heavy ceramic water dish for their cats, and the cats can't overturn it.

  • my cat used to do that as well!  I got the bowls that are in a wire rack holder and the bowls are metal. He cant seem to tip this over.

I have a 110lb pup myself who also drinks from an elevated bowl.  My cat likes to stand on his hind legs whenever i put fresh water in the dogs bowl and drink from it.

  • I second the heavy ceramic bowl. My cats aren't able to tip it over. This doesn't prevent them from splashing it out and playing in it though. Good luck!

  • They make designs that are more difficult to tip - like this:

otherwise I would try the heavier ceramic ones also
  • Possibly a suction-cup bowl?!
