1 night in Rome -- hotel suggestion?

I have to travel to India for work. Because the flight is so long I get a "rest day." The city that I can spend the most amount of time in is Rome (based on flight schedules).

So, on my way to India I will be "resting" in Rome from 9:30a - 10:00pm the following day.

I need a hotel suggestion -- somewhere that will put me within walking distance to a lot of sights.

I can spend up to $445 (inc hotel tax).

Yes. Albergo del senato overlooks pantheon. Hotel Fontana di Trevi overlooks Trevi fountain. I've stayed at both and they're both lovely.

My favorite hotel in Rome is Villa Spaletti Trivelli.  Yes it is a bit out of your range, but worth it.  It is well located - near Trevi Fountain in one direction and the Colleseum in another --  especially if you are willing to walk.  The fabulous breakfast in the morning and the honor bar in the evening makes it a perfect place to unwind.

We have stayed there 3 times and loved it!

One small touring note:

The tickets for the Coliseum/Forum are good for 24 hours.  Buy the ticket and wander the Forum in the afternoon (lines are shorter and the crowds lighter) then return first thing in the AM for the Coliseum.  You can skip the tourist hordes because you already have your tickets.
