Monday Accountability Post

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards goals?

3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?

Re: Monday Accountability Post

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

    Gas-$40

    Grocery Store- $7

    Total- $47

    2. Any progress towards goals?

We didn't save a lot towards the house or e-fund last month so we are hoping to do better this month. We also had to finish paying the last bill for H's school after he quit so that didn't help.

    3. Favorite summer activities?

I love bike riding on the awesome paved path around our town, mini golf, kayaking, pools and beaches, walking the dog, tennis, and vacations etc....

    1) I was traveling (again), so I spent about $40 on gas and $8 on fast food.  I also made a big Costco run yesterday that was like $98.  And then on Friday I pulled the trigger on buying a new travel bag.  The last time I was in Europe I got targeted for pickpocketing a few times.  None of the attempts were successful, but it's still a really crappy feeling.  So anyway, I got a small pacsafe messenger bag - the zippers are anchored, it has slash-resistant straps, it has water-resistant fabric, etc.  It was about $50, but I bought it when it dropped in price by $25 on Amazon.  The peace of mind was worth it.  I can't wait to take it with me to London in August.

    2) Made good progress toward goals.  H's signing bonus arrived on Friday so we were able to put the entire amount toward our house savings.  It was actually more than we were expecting, which was a nice surprise.

    3) My favorite summer activity is probably going to the (free!) botanical gardens or (not free) zoo.  I also really like grilling out... but we don't own a grill.  H has been lusting after one of those big green eggs.  He really wants one after we buy a house.  I'm trying to find something that will have similar results but doesn't cost $800...

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Good! $200 for a new mattress/box spring and $50 even for dinner and drinks. $250 isn't terrible and was all planned.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Tomorrow we get to put $1,250 into our e fund. I am excited to get it back up to where it was before.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? Read on the grass in front of our building and walk down to the pond to drink and swim. Haha.

  • On regular budget we did good, but ended up having to blow all of tax return & part of husbands bonus. My husband dropped his phone into a glass of water & of course it happens the one time he doesn't take out insurance. Since he has to have a smart phone for work because he is on call 24/7 because they have a sister office in the Phillipines which is 12 hours ahead. So new phone bought.

The bigger expense which took up all of our tax return was for a security system that will be installed on Thursday. Unfortunately we've had some issues happening lately that made us feel that we needed to install a security system to protect ourselves and our property. Next step is to install a new mail box that is more secure to protect our mail. Long story short, someone in our neighborhood is going through our mail & got our CC #. Yep, in broad daylight. But when you live in a neighborhood where everyone works during the day, it's easier for them to pull off a daytime theft.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? $35 gas. $52 groceries. $51 Target run. $40 personal trainer 2. Any progress towards goals? Got my bonus payout on Friday, which was about $900. Put an extra payment towards my car payment, and the rest will go towards our savings. 3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? BBQ, beach.. just being outside in the sun makes me happy!

    1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($130), Target ($25), gas ($50), clothes, socks for the girls ($50).

    2. Any progress towards goals? Will, health care proxy, etc are signed and filed ($350). I got a 3.5% raise for the year and I usually get a small one time bonus at 1.5%- that'll go into the vacation savings account. DH and I put together a list of house projects for the summer- mostly replacing some old wood siding with new wood siding on one side of the house, touching up some paint, and getting a second coat on the garage.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? I took every Friday off last summer to hang out with DH (he's a teacher) and the girls- we went to the zoo, museums, swimming, the park... just like to enjoy the nice weather and spend time with the family. Hoping to do the same this summer. And I love July 4th fireworks!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

    $55-Home Depot

    $68-Grocery Store

    $30-Sushi Lunch date

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Our Tax return depositied last week over the weekend I paid off all H's remaining CC debt and paid off our vacation in June....we had enough left to pay our CPA, treat ourselves to lunch (above), and deposit the rest in savings.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?

I love gardening, our home depot spending was on hardware to hang roman shades I made and then on Gladiola and Dhalia bulbs....so ready for the snow to be gone. in doing our taxes this year our CPA realized that we missed about $1600 last year, so we're using some of that $$ to install raised garden beds for tons of veggies this year. I also enjoy cycling and once all the salt/sand/nastiness is cleaned up I can't wait to crank a ton of miles this summer!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? It wasn't great, but it was all in our budget:

$20 - breakfast Saturday with my family.

$20 - lunch Saturday while house touring.

    $22 - dinner - wine & dessert brought to friend's house for a dinner.

$77 - groceries Sunday for the week.

$27 & $19 - Work pants for new part time job & work dress for regular job. I am slowly trying to up my work wardrobe.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Amazingly we were able to add $1,621 to our savings/housing fund. So that is awesome!

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? I love to go camping, hike, volunteer at a girl's conservation camp (probably can't get time off this year), floating down rivers, and just being outside - BBQ, friends, etc. :)

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not so great, but we had a good time!

-$65 a dinner on Friday night a little more than usual but we got hibachi!

    -$20 on groceries

-$45 at Target (used a gift card from shower returns)

-$10 for parking in the city on Saturday

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not MM wise this weekend. But we did pick out the carpet we want for our basement! I'm actually a little sad that it will be a lot nicer than the carpet in the rest of our house. The people before us threw in the cheapest carpet they could, so I'm sure we'll upgrade it eventually.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? Boating.. probably the least MM thing we can do, we have so much fun on the water though. It's takes up pretty much every weekend in the summer.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Well I spent an exceptional amount of money this weekend but most of it was budgetted. 756 for 4 new tires for my car that i desperately needed, 70 on groceries, 65 at lowes for grass seed, 32 at petsmart for a water bowl for the dogs and a 12 dollar toy for our puppy that is supposedly "indestructable"...which it is but only because he won't touch it because our older dog claimed it as hers and growls at him everytime he tries. I think she's mad because he's destroyed every single one of her toys and now she has none. Poor baby girl - can't say i blame her.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    Unfortunately No.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?

Most of my favorite activities we can't afford to do.... the most we do in the summer usually is a weekend away at the beach so i guess that'll be my favorite.

    1.  This weekend was better than last!  I did a paint nite with my girlfriends that was paid for ages ago, and spent $24 on drinks and munchies (within my fun budget).  DH spent $65 on groceries (on budget) and $25 on beer for entertaining both last night and next Saturday (still within budget...we do need to cut this back but one thing at a time).  I got new tires today, but was able to get them for $505 total which is pretty good for my car and I had the cash put aside.  We had friends over for dinner last night, and since one of them was pregnant I spend about $10 on a wide array of non-alcoholic beverages since I wasn't sure what she'd go for.

    2.  Small contributions to house savings fund and short-term savings.  Still waiting on our tax info from our CPA, but it should be in any day now.  As I mentioned in another thread, we also really dug into our future budget to figure out what we can afford in terms of homes, and then used this to expand our search to towns where there are lots of options in our price range.

    3.  I know I mention it a lot, but I love SCUBA diving!  I go about twice a month during the summer, and since I work for a dive shop a lot of this I am getting paid for.  We also love camping and hiking, though we haven't gotten to do as much of it lately.  Another thing I'm getting into is birding (ie bird watching).  It's amazing the beautiful birds that are all around us once you know what to look for!

Yes, I'm a huge nerd.  I admit this.
  • 1 - Better because I was recovering from surgery.  Spent $25 on chinese takeout Friday Night.  Spent $35 at the grocery store.  $5 for script at walgreens and $2.59 for Redbox movies.

2 - sold our old patio table on craigslist for $150 and that will go into our savings account for basement remodel

3 - swimming/tanning and our annual summer vaca which will be in sanibel island this year.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? $10 for snacks and carousel ride at the zoo Saturday (zoo pass so the rest is free) $30 for lunch out Sunday and $55 for groceries. But we still need to shop for the week, that was some urgent needs and for a family dinner we hosted Sunday night.

    2. Any progress towards goals? We paid $1000 to our house savings this month, trying to get to $1500. Unfortunatly we have a ton of stuff coming up in April and May so I dont think $1500 is going to happen.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? Visit State Parks! We try to go to a new one every Sunday in the summer. A year long pass is $30 and we pack a lunch so its MM too.

Wow that's a really great idea.  Does the pass only work for state parks, or does it work for national parks as well?  Might need to look into that for us...

  • @hoffse I'm in Washington State, they started charging a few years ago but I dont mind paying $30 a year. Its only for State parks, but we do have a couple great national parks here (Mt Ranier and Olympic) but those are seperate. We have found some really amazing parks within an hour of our house, most people are shocked when they see pictures because many of the parks are not well known and are so amazing!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Not good.  I moved into new place this weekend, and had to get a few things.  But working on a budget for the new place so I can get on track with my goals.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Not as of this March 31, but tomorrow is a new month.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?

Camping.  My dad has a seasonal camp site.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not too bad, went to a work event in Louisville, Ky Thursday/ Friday where my boss picked some of the meals.  Did go to COSI in Columbus so spent roughly $70 on gas, $50 on admissions, and $30 on dinner.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not really, MW will be getting a bonus soon that will go towards car repairs and housing savings.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer? Hiking in our local parks, going to the local zoo, but the best is the week in July with her whole family on the beach at Lake Erie.

  • 1. Great! I worked all day Saturday and Sunday. DH and DD were stuck at home due to a snowstorm. So no real opportunities to spend money lol! We did make up for it by eating out tonight and buying DD a sticker book. So 85.00 tonight but nothing over the weekend. 2. Credit card is at zero balance, 2500 in EF ( started with nothing) and an extra 1000 payment on our car. 3. We have annual passes to our local amusement park. So riding rides is our fav thing to do!

Luckily we have enough wall space on the front of our attached garage that we are going to install a mail slot with a chute that is angled and goes down so it will make it very hard for anyone to be able to reach our mail. We figured for us this was a better option because then it's a one time cost and we still have the convenience of receiving mail at our home. I am switching all the bills I can to paperless, but the new mail chute will also accomodate our mail order prescriptions or items that I can't switch to paperless.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Pretty good. Groceries on Friday, out of town on Saturday/Sunday for H's corporate ball, attended a birthday party on Sunday. The ball, vallet, etc was all covered. We did take advantage of the discounted hotel rate across the street from where the ball was held since we were over two hours from home and didn't want to drive that late.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
No... H is having dental work done this week so that will limit extra funds. Also we got a bill from the pediatrician from when DS was sick in February.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?
We have a state park close by with water/beach access, walking trails, etc. We also like to visit the zoo, children's museum and just the local parks.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Wasn't all bad, but we did spend more that I wanted to. $10 on drinks on Saturday night, and extra $9 on food Friday night, and I did buy a baby item yesterday that was not budgeted $35.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Not really. I had to put $300 away into savings to put towards payment of my taxes, but I will be taking it out this week to send the bill. This month will be a very tight month - we have to start paying on DH's car this month and we have to pay off our car insurance because the new insurance will kick off next month - so we will most likely not be putting any money away into savings, at least until the end of the month.

    3. What are your favorite activities to do in the summer?

I love walking around Newport and Cape Cod. I just love being outside and hanging out with DH and DD will be nice. I'm just hoping I will be able to keep that up being 7/8 months pregnant.
