Aflac?

I'm currently interviewing for a part time weekend package job at a different hospital. They don't offer a paid maternity leave for their weekend package employees and while we don't plan to start trying for #2 for about a year I'm looking into Aflac. Anyone have experience with them? Like them? Hate them?

Re: Aflac?

  • DH's boss and his wife did this to supplement their insurance and they actually got paid to have a baby. This was 5 & 7 years ago so I'm not sure if things have changed, but if you sign up before getting pregnant, it's definitely an option! We would have but actually forgot about it before we made the decision to TTC.

  • I'm going to call the agent my dad knows this week to get more information. Of course he'll think Aflac is the best so it's nice to know that it's not too good to be true!

  • I have an aflac policy that I brought with me from a previous job. I pay quarterly premiums which are reasonable and when I filled out my STD paper work I got a pretty good amount of money for my claim. They were fast, efficient, and friendly. I say go for it.

  • Aflac no longer has a hospitalization plan and you can only get a std plan through them if it is contracted with the employer. I learned this when I went to cancel my Aflac plan after DS was born. They told me I could keep the coverage but if I cancelled I couldn't get the policy back bc it was gone. So I kept it and we figured out how long we had to have #2 before paying the Aflac policy became useless.

  • ^that still doesn't solve the fact that you can't get a policy through Aflac unless it's through an employer.

Yeah, we've been paying $46/mo since February 2011. We had to do the math to figure out when it would no longer be helpful. With DS I claimed being hospitalized twice (admitted for illness that became a failed induction and then induction and delivery) and got $2700.
