Cat urinating on carpet all of a sudden?

I have an appx. 4 yo. fixed male cat.  We have recently noticed that he is all of a sudden urinating on a small carpet we have by our front door. We recently threw away one last week, just put a new one down and he is still doing it.  The first time we thought he had an accident, but it is still happening.
Any help would be appreciated!
TIA.

Re: Cat urinating on carpet all of a sudden?

  • Go to the vet to check for a UTI. And clean the accidents with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle.
  • in addition to a UTI, urinating like that could be anxiety driven...as much as I hate our pharma culture, if he doesn't have a UTI, ask if the vet thinks putting him on some kind of anti-anxiety pill (prozac) might help change his behavior, cat pee smells awful!

  • Yes, get him to the vet ASAP.  A UTI is especially dangerous for a male cat.  This happened to my mom's cat and they had to perform emergency surgery.  If it's not a UTI, are they any changes that have occurred in the home recently?   Sometimes it's behavioral.  If it is, try this litter additive called Cat Attract.  It compels them to use the litter box.  My female cat did this when we adopted another cat and after ruling out any medical issue our vet recommended the Cat Attract.  It worked almost instantly.
  • After medical issues are ruled out, keep an eye out for any cats or wild animals that may be coming close to your house and provoking your cat. Some cats (even ones who are fixed) are protective and mark to deter others and if he is only going by the door it is likely he is marking.
