So I decided that I want to have some people over finally and bbq, have some drinks and have some fun this Spring. I really haven't ever done this and have wanted to. The only thing is, we have friends that can be very flakey and not dependable. Its pretty sad, but I am sick of always going to everyone elses' place for these things. We all live fairly close to each other and I think it would be fun. Since going to a bar/club is getting pretty old, since we are also getting old. It would be nice to hang out home and party here. I was wondering, since this would be the first time, how should I go about this? I want to provide the food, but also don't want to have a ton and have nobody show up. Any advice? Thanks. xo

we'll often do pot-luck BYOB for those things...we live in the land of microbrews (literally 40+ breweries within 100 miles of our house) so it's fun for everyone to grab a 6-pack of something and everyone can try a few different things and then we'll send people home with 6-however many bottles they drank. Alcohol is where the money goes for get-togethers.

Sounds fun!  I want to do this as well for our friends when we finally get a nice weekend.  I think you should provide meat, some sort of main dish, and a dessert--then ask guests to bring a app, veg, or dessert.  For example, for us, we would provide burgers or steaks, corn on the cob, and brownies-pretty standard for mid-Missouri-then our guests bring whatever they like.  Everything is covered!  Good luck
