I just received an invitation to a full baby shower (registered at 3 places) for a woman who is pg with #2 (#1 is 2).

I just want to see the comments. :-)

Personally, I don't have an issue with baby showers for subsequent babies.  I see them as a celebration of the new baby. And, I would be buying a gift anyway.

I don't have issues with sprinkles, but I don't see the need for multiple registries (just as full as one for #1) for a second child.

I go to enough showers as is. I don't need to go to one for second babies. And beyond some diapers and a few essentials, how much more do you need?

If there was only clothes and other consumables on the registry, I wouldn't be as eye roll-y. If they are wanting new everything, I'd be judging. Three registries is ridiculous for a second child.

Yeah I think it's bullshit. I don't care about close friends/close family getting together to buy cute outfits and diapers but a full on shower with registries is gift grabby.

Take that with a grain of salt, I suppose, since I am a bitter. ;-)

Full on shower is bullshit. I went to a cousin's 2nd baby shower but they only gave it to her because it was a girl, the first was a boy. She didn't know about it and didn't register for it at all.

Oh screw that noise.  The only way I'd find it somewhat acceptable is if the baby is a different gender and it was something small, but a full blown shower and registering at 3 places is just ridiculous, selfish and attention whoreish.  And no one better give me that bullshit of "well someone may be throwing the shower for her so it's not her fault" ummm no, she registered at 3 places so she's clearly all about it.  I wouldn't go and I also wouldn't send a gift.  /EndRant

I'm still a bitter infertile, so it took a lot of inner strength to send my cousin and his wife a gift (HM baby, of course). Forget this chick, my neighbor of a year.

I voted "eh".  I'm with NFP on this one. People shouldn't feel obligated to give a gift, but some people want to give a gift and  I see the shower as being a celebration. Also I can understand that parents might have items that they wish they would have purchased the first time around or there might be gender specific items that they want.  I don't really have a problem with registering in several places because the parents might be wanting specific items that are only found at certain places.

I dislike showers In general. They are dumb. Have a party to celebrate, but registries? Gross and gift grabby. People buy too much stuff for babies as it is. You get two showers in your life. A wedding shower And a baby shower. Don't make me go to anymore! The games are dumb and the food is usually sub-par. Also, if there's no Sangria get me the hell out of there.

I'm dealing with this right now, too!!

Some variety of cousin to DH (I can't keep his family straight and I don't understand how 2nd/3rd/removed cousins work) is having her second baby. Her first is about 3 now, but her first was a boy and this one's a girl.

She totally registered for way more than gender-specific stuff and consumable items. She's got diapers and wipes and girly clothes on there, but she's also got a convertible car seat, a boatload of new girly towels and washcloths, and a bunch of other stuff that she should already have from her first kid.

I almost always stick to people's registries, because they probably put time and effort into picking out one thing over another. But in this case? No. I will get the baby a couple of cute outfits or a pack of diapers or something, but I'm not restocking all the infant towels and washcloths and soaps you should already have/need to buy for kid #1 anyway.

Whether there was a shower or not, I'd probably give a gift anyway just because that's what I do... But a full registry, when you should still have everything from baby#1 available is a little crazy. I could see baby#1 being a girl and baby#2 a boy so they are asking for clothes but not anything else.

I recently went to a sprinkle and I was sooo annoyed to be going.  the mom is a complete AW the baby is the same sex as the older one, so its not like she needed a whole new wardrobe. so I bought her some shampoo, lotion, and diapers. that it all. maybe i'm a bitch.

I will say, I have mixed feelings with registries. I thought of my wedding one as a "guide." I needed a toaster, so I registered for one. Nothing fancy, just simple. A couple of my in laws went in together and got a really nice one, not the one I registered for. I was very happy, I didn't expect to get one as nice as I did. I worry sometimes with registries that others don't think this way and want EXACTLY what they registered for. 

I have no problem with a celebration of a second pregnancy with close friends and family. I don't think a second should be called a shower or have a registry. My BF is pregnant with #2 (boy same as her first) and her mom is having a cook out to celebrate. A couple of friends and I are going in on a diaper cake (I'm making it) and a hospital survival kit.
