Easter Menu?

This will be my first year hosting Easter (yikes)! We're Italian so we tend to stray from the "norm" --- but I could really use some ideas, especially with dessert! Any stand-out desserts your families love for Easter?

Here is what I am planning:

Meat and cheese plate
Penne a la vodka and meatball appetizer (I know this seems heavy, but it started with my Grandma, so it is tradition)

Roast Beef
Turkey
Asparagus
Mashed potatoes
String beans

Any help would be fantastic!

Re: Easter Menu?

  • In my family, we usually do some sort of fruity pie for dessert on Easter. It might be because we live in New England and by Easter we're ready for spring!

Most of the time my Mom will make something she calls "strawberry dream pie," which I'm sure is a recipe from Jello or Cool Whip. Or we'll pick up a lemon meringue pie. I also remember eating rice pie on Easter as a kid, but that must have lost favor, because we haven't had it in years.

For our main menu we always have ham as our meat and asparagus for our veggie. The starch is always potato, most of the time it's twice baked potatoes. We're one of those families who have a set menu on holidays!

  • We usually stick pretty close to the same thing too.  We are having Easter at my sister in laws this year.  As far as i know the menu consists of:

Apps- Veggies and Dips, Deviled Eggs (my job) and cheese and crackers

Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and corn spoon bread (my job)

Desserts- unfortunately im clueless as her side of the family is in charge of it this year.

  • I'm not sure what we are having for Easter this year. My MIL is having it. I'm bringing a dessert - lemon poke cake. Never made it before but I can't wait to try it. I've been thinking about it for a month, lol.

  • Well I come from the most religiously mixed family there is.  My father was raised a strict Catholic, then he married my Jewish mother and they raised me Jewish.  I married a Hindu man.  Easter is pretty nonexistent for us, but we do all have dinner together- just an excuse for a family dinner.  This year we're having steaks from my dad's favorite butcher in is home town in the midwest (we live on the east coast, so we get them shipped)- the most fantastic steaks ever.
  • Alright, so I think the consensus is I need to pull myself together and make a very sping-like cake or pie :)
