FitBit vs. MP3 - help me decide (NBR)

So my MIL gave me a FitBit Flex for Christmas (and I quote "hoping you'll use it to lose weight.")  It turns out that I'm allergic to the wristband.  I've emailed the company and they are so helpful - they've offered to either give me a full refund or give me the One (the clip version of the FitBit).  I've been exercising a lot, but I swim instead of walking or running.  I'm torn between replacing the Flex with the One and just getting the refund and using it to buy a swim-designed waterproof MP3 player to listen to while I swim laps.  WWYD?

Re: FitBit vs. MP3 - help me decide (NBR)

  • I love my fitbit (though it IS the flex). It actually helps me more during non-workout moments. When I am working out, I KNOW I am being active and burning calories. The Fitbit has helped me see just how lazy I am during non-workout moments. So it has motivated me to get up at work and walk around, and to just be more aware of what I do all day, if that makes sense. So, I would get a fitbit if you are interested in it as a motivator and as a tracker of more than just your workouts. (You can manually enter your swim workouts.)

BUT BUT BUT, a swim-designed MP3 player sounds cool!

I love my fitbit. Like @sfgiantsjo said it really helps keep me moving throughout the day rather than just while working out.

But the ability to add Moreread time to your day? Hard to beat!
