Chart Question

Can someone help me to interpret this? I'm reading about an implantation dip that can happen any time between 5-12 DPO and I'm not sure whether or not that's what I'm seeing. Thanks, ladies!

Even if we could see your chart, no one can tell you if it's an implantation dip. If you get a BFP, it might be an implantation dip or it could still be a random low temp.

  • Snark isn't really necessary, thanks. I've literally never heard of an implantation dip until I started researching after seeing this one freak low post-o temp having never had one before. I'm not an idiot, just wondering, but thanks. It was a legitimate question; you didn't need to be nasty.
  • "Implantation" dips aren't a thing for every cycle resulting in a BFP. No one can tell you if that's what it is. You just have to wait until the end of your cycle (or when you'd expect it to end) and then test. Charting is all about taking your temps as a whole, not individually. I've had random temp drops during my LP that never resulted in a BFP. I had a BFP cycle that showed no variation in my post-O temps at all.

  • Thank you. I was just wondering because, as I said, this is something that I had never heard if before and I've never had a post-o dip like that. I've been temping for the past four months or so, but only started keeping track on a chart within my past two cycles. When I saw the dip, I wasn't sure what I might be looking at, since my temp doesn't usually fall until the two days or so before AF.

What answer were you looking for? There's no way to know if it's an implantation dip or a low temp for another reason. Like LA said, it's about the picture as a whole, not one individual temperature.

I didn't know if it was actually a thing, so there was that, since you can't believe everything you read on the internet. I've also never seen anything like that in my own temping trends, so it freaked me out a little bit, so I was looking for someone to tell me that, no, I'm not going crazy, and yeah, it does look like a weird anomalous dip. Not being able to see the chart complicated that, and I still can't figure out how to share it so other people can see it. My temp rebounded yesterday, after the dip on Thursday, but the whole thing was just really bizarre.

Also, I never said I thought I was pregnant. Having been there before, I know that it's WAY too early to tell. I'm planning on waiting till the end (or what should be the end) of this cycle to test, but having never experienced a dip like that before, I had no idea what I was looking at.
  • Random temp dips can happen for any number of reasons. Sleeping with your mouth open, a cooler room temperature during sleep, any number of other flukes.

Yes, looking at umpteen BFP charts shows that SOME women have experienced a dip in their temp around when implantation might occur, hence you seeing the term "implantation dip." But it doesn't happen for everyone for every BFP. Same with implantation spotting. It happens for some women, but not for all. If you thoroughly read through FF's FAQs and tutorials, you'll learn a lot more about these things and charting as a whole.

There's nothing to get freaked out over because of one random temp dip.

  • Yeah, I've had dips in my LP the past couple cycles, and no pregnancy. Implantation dips are more or less a hindsight thing.
  • Thanks, ladies.
  • Well when you get pregnant this month...just remember the nasty lady that called it.
