Another 3T Question

Amanda got me thinking about this.

H and I are TTA right now before we feel ready to move forward with treatment with the RE.  But in the meantime should we do an initial appointment with him now that we have coverage?  It would just cost our $50 co-pay for a specialist visit.

Or should we wait until we're ready to move forward with treatment?  Which could be 2 months or 2 years from now.  I just don't want to waste the Dr's and our time if we're preventing and not wanting to get testing done right now.  But if I get a BFP once we start TTC again, then I will be calling this Dr to get progestrone and beta's checked.

This is kind of how I feel about it.  Maybe he will have another perspective or advice to give.  Or maybe he will have some recommendations on things to try when we do start TTC again.  Especially if my cycles become regular.

But I also don't want to waste his time and be like, "we want to move to you but we don't want to do anything yet."

But the RE may want to run tests on you after hearing your history. I wouldn't go unless I was going to be using those results within the year.

  • I would go if you want betas/progesterone etc. after a BFP whether with the RE or not. As if they doesn't know you they likely won't be doing that for you. Also some RE's have different views on what they'll do. My original RE wouldn't prescribe progesterone but the new one would.

That being said they may want to do more testing even before doing that, like a RPL panel.

You never have to move forwards with their recommendations but it can't hurt to hear what they are.

    Agree with Amanda!
At least this way he/she can learn a little about you and you learn a little about them. Then discuss your situation and see where it goes. A consult is the best way to feel the doctor out and ask any and all questions you have PRIOR to doing testing and procedures.

I agree with this.  Even if they give you recommendations, you don't have to take them, but maybe you might want to get specific tests done after they suggest them.

What if that made you want to push up your time table etc etc etc. plus, you may reevaluate your situation over the next six months and then you'd be one step ahead in the game. Jmo

  • An re isn't going to do anything for you post BFP if they didn't treat you to get you pregnant. I went after 3 losses and went on a treatment plan. But I had already had my rlp bloodwork done and everything so the only thing left for the re to do was genetic testing. Don't go until you're ready. If you aren't ready then there's no point in wasting their time right now. They'll tell you the same thing no matter when you go, whatever it is their opinion is. But again, you have to have been under their care for post BFP treatment. Most likely they would want you on progesterone from 3dpo in the very least so you wouldn't be calling them at the sign of a BFP to get said progesterone. In my cases that was much too late to start the progesterone. I needed to start right after O to prevent my body from miscarrying.

  • @carcrashheart Thank you!  That was very helpful.

That's one of my biggest fears right now with getting a regular cycle from the Gluten Free/PCOS diet.  We may be able to get pregnant on our own, but we obviously can't keep a baby in there on our own.  My current OB won't do progestrone on an unmedicated cycle.  He said that we have to get a BFP first, then he'll test for it.  But the rate we're going, we will just keep having CP's before we can even get it drawn and get help keeping one in there.

But H doesn't want to move forward with testing and assistance until we're debt free.  Yet we don't want to TTA for 2 years.  He is still on the "want to just let things happen" train.  Which just isn't an option for us unless we want to continue to have CP's.

    IF sucks!

I disagree because my RE did treat me on a natural BFP. It was a 'break' cycle because we couldn't do a medicated cycle that cycle. I think @brij2006 needs to at least call and find out what the RE would be willing to do should she get a BFP on her own in the meantime.

Not always true. I'd called to get started with an RE, had yet to even have my first consultation with them, and I got this BFP. They brought me in for early monitoring because my regular doc's office was closed (it was right around NYE) and because they knew I'd m/c last time. They literally did nothing to get me pregnant, not even testing, but they worked with me for a few weeks after the BFP, and even started me on prog when it looked like my levels weren't quite high enough.
