Poop question - sorry!

Ugh, the nest just ate my post:

Sorry to be discussing poop but I'm wondering if there is something going on with Andrew that I'm not thinking of? In the last week and a half he's woken up with what we call poop back (diaper explosion) about 5 times. This is something we've never had to deal wtih before. He wears size 3 diapers and is still 8lbs away from the limit and they aren't tight, so I don't think its a wrong size issue. It's also occuring only at night.

He's been eating solid foods for 6 months now and I haven't introduced any new food lately so I don't think thats it. I thought maybe it was teething but he also has 7 teeth already and we've never faced this issue before.

The only thing new is the introduction of whole milk. I introduced it maybe 2 weeks ago and he's had a little bit every day. But the poop back is not every day but i'm still wondering if there is some correlation? Is it possible he's a bit lactose intolerant but its not bothering him every day? I'll also call the pedi but I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this issue.

Re: Poop question - sorry!

  • Poop is one of my favorite topics since becoming a mother! Is it runny and that's why it's leaking out? I'm not sure about the milk but maybe try some rice or oatmeal to help bind it back together?

  • Not really runny, but not solid either. Lets call is mushy? LOL! I'm sooo sorry to all the non moms on here who want to barf or hurt me right now. I hated these posts back in the day.

  • I know you said the diaper size was fine, but I would try the next size up. I feel like I had to move C up before the weight limit, maybe he is just big enough in certain places it isn't fitting right?  If it was food related, I'd think you'd also have issues during the day (stomach aches, etc?).  I really don't know though.  Are you concerned with the consistency?  poop isn't just poop anymore, ha!

  • So my sister just called me to say he had another blow out. I will try a size up but the 3s are not tight at all. My sister (having raised her own kid and then was a nanny for my other sister) is convinced its a teething thing. Andrew has never chewed on things..teethers, toys, his hands, etc. Just not his style. She said today he was standing in his crib and she turned around and he was gnawing on the railing and drooling in pools.

I'm not overly concerned with consistency. While its not a log, its also not runny.

  • Some of the later teeth apparently hurt more (eye and molar), so it could be (I never saw a connection wtih C, so I'm not helpful there).  Hope you get it figured out or the teething passes soon.  Blowouts suck.

  • Yeah I'm curious if the earlier teeth were the "easy" teeth and now this is how he'll handle the harder teeth. Seriously, this can't keep happening. I'm washing sheets and pjs every other day. Like I said, we've never had this problem before so not used to dealing with it.

I'm going to call the pedi on my way home just to check in with them.

  • I was going to suggest sizing up diapers as well. But V's poops were so gross during the teething horror months. I think my mom said it loosens up because of all of the drool they are swallowing. Another joy of parenting.
  • G was in size 4 diapers before he was in the weight range. They hold the poop much better. He also has big, soft poops.

  • We just started using Up & Up Size 4s on Mikey at nighttime.  Though they are quite large on him, they seem to be doing the trick with keeping him dry at nighttime.

  • Have you tried night diapers? We had this issue. I think they were so saturated in pee over night that the poop couldn't be absorbed at all. We use pampers overnights and it stopped.
    Good luck!!

  • Thanks ladies. Last week was obviously busy but I think I'll run out and get a small box of size 4s and try them at night. He had a day time blow out on Saturday (just as we pulled up to a bday party) but thats rare. Maybe Ill do size 4 nighttime diaper.

The drool think makes sense. He drools nonstop. And like I've said, he usually doesn't chew on anything but the past two weeks he's had his entire hand in his mouth all day.
