Re: Book Club Monday

  • I completely gave up on Sins of the Mother. It was terrible. It just kept repeating how she loved her work and her husband and mother took care of the kids. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

    Once I gave that up, I read Island Girls by Nancy Thayer which was decent. Now I am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns which I am really loving.

    Still listening to The Cuckoos Calling...

  • I will finish up listening to HP6 (re-read) today.

    I finished Lover Unbound (BDB #5) last week and loved it. So far my favorite of the series.

    I started Code Name Verity and I'm not feeling it, I'm hoping it picks up soon.

    I also started Chose the Wrong Guy, Gave Him the Wrong Finger and it's light and fun. I will finish that early this week.

    These are 30, 31 and 32 for the year. My goal is 50.

    @Cathyl7910, I LOVED A Thousand Splendid Suns!

  • I tried to read a lot this past week since it was spring break! I read before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and I really liked it overall! I gave it 5 stars, which is rare for me. I also read Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin. I wasn't crazy about it. It was okay, but not great. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't discourage you if you wanted to read it.

    I am currently reading Hopeless by Colleen Hoover (Hopeless #2). I'm really liking it, but I'm wishing I had read it closer to the first one because there's so much I want to compare, I just can't remember!!

  • Still chipping away at the Vinyl Princess. Haven't had the time to read unfortunately. May lean towards getting audiobooks for next week while I'm night shift.

  • I might let you gals have a first crack at it ;)  I will probably e-publish so you can get it on Amazon.
    It's not genre fiction...but it's kind of based on the Lauren Spierer case (google it, it's a long story) here in Indiana.  It's kind of Twin Peaks-y/Spoon River Anthology-ish (a book I love).  It goes through the lives of all the people in this town and how they're affected by the girl going missing/presumed dead.  The town is based on Bloomington, IN where IU is, which is a really interesting place because parts of it are very small town, but then there are the rich, ivory tower types, and all kinds of people in between.

    I try to get 1500 words per day down, and at this point it should be at around 400 pages when I'm done.

  • I'm in serious Awe with writers. That's so awesome! Good luck Evan! My cw just self-published on Amazon and is printing to paperback now. I showed her good reads to help get the word out. It's been fun to watch her book get out there. Can't wait for yours!
