2nd anniversary

Hi everyone!
I need some help. My 2nd anniversary is coming up memorial day weekend and I cant figure out what to get my husband. Traditional gifts are cotton but I cant buy him clothes or anything like that. We are going to a cabin the mountains for the weekend so maybe something to go along with the trip? any creative people out there?

Re: 2nd anniversary

  • What about a fancy cotton robe, maybe with a monogram on it?

Can he use nice cotton shirts for work?
  • A nice robe, apron, ties, hat, scarf and/or mittens, pajamas, underwear, pillows, towels, throw/blanket, luggage, hammock, bedding, tennis shoes, art on a canvas or something, cuff-links made with cotton, or sports gear made of cotton (if he is into sports/has a favourite team).  You could always get one item of cotton and something else not made of cotton.

  • Is he the type to know that 2nd anniversary is traditionally cotton? Would he care?

Honestly, I've never dated a guy who would make the connection, and even if I pointed it out, at best they would have been all, "Oh. That's clever. Uh, thanks." Pretty sure most guys would rather have a gift they really liked/needed rather than something that fit the historic schedule of anniversary gifts. I eventually realized that I was trying to stick to the traditional materials more to be clever on the Nest than because my H enjoyed the tradition.

  • That aside, if you do really want to go the cotton route...

What are you doing in the mountains? If this is an active trip, cotton can be a bit tricky, because it's not the most performant fabric these days, since there are so many great high-tech synthetics.

One thing that I really appreciate is my cotton sleeping-bag liner. It's a bit heavier than silk, but not by that much, and it's so easy to wash. I also use it as a sleep sheet when traveling or as a lightweight sleeping bag in hot weather.

A nice canvas duffel or tote bag? A hammock?

What are some of his interests? That might help generate more ideas.

  • A trip to the mountains sounds like a wonderful trip! Would one of those colorful Peruvian style blankets be something he'd enjoy? It could be used on the trip and they last forever so it would be a great reminder of your anniversary trip every time you guys used it.

  • Our 2nd is in July! we didn't exchange gifts last year...we did get our puppy around the same time, since she came with AKC papers we said she was our joint gift.

I'm thinking about turning some of H's old t-shirts into a quilt.

  • ^^ @gdaisy09 I have always thought of making a quilt with H's old tshirts. He has so many of them.. Lol I would love to get them out of the closet.

  • @cloudymeatballs there are some great ideas on pinterest for t-shirt quilts...I think the trick would be finding the right fabric for the back side and boarder, plus jersey material can be difficult to work with because it's so stretchy.
