Need Rec Please!

My boyfriend is currently deployed and we want to escape when he returns in August.  Can anyone recommend an adults-only all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean?  We are not concerned with it still being hurricane season.  Flying from DC, so thinking Mexico, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, etc. but open to anywhere.  Need a good mix of beach and activities and CLEAN!  Thanks!

Re: Need Rec Please!

  • Not sure about your budget, but I always recommend Turks and Caicos.  Beaches are extraordinary.  Bunch of airlines have non-stop flights from DC and since August is hot and not the peak season, the prices are cheaper.
  • I would recommend Sandals in St Lucia. We are older and not in to the party crowd so we elected to stay at Halcyon. There are 3 Sandals resorts there and you can stay at 1 and use all 3.It is a couples only all inclusive. Includes lodging, food, drinks (watered down), use of all non-powered activities (catamarans, kayak, etc), diving, snorkeling. Halcyon is quieter, garden like, cabanas are first come first serve with view of ocean but not directly on the beach. Other 2 resorts (La Toc and The Grande have cabanas on beach but they cost and have to be reserved). The Grande has the best beach and a national park next door with an old fort and trails. La Toc is hilly with a shuttle to get you around the resort due to hills and size. It has a golf course - some fees not included. We went for 9 nights and with airfare from Houston cost us around 5K. There are excursions but they cost extra. Snokeling entails a short boat ride and is included. They go to several different places so go more than once.
  • Other option if you want to travel more during your trip... Costa Rica. There are beaches, rainforest and volcanoes. Travel within the country is available by shared transport, private transport and rental vehicles (but the roads are bad and not well marked). I would recommend Arenal (volcano). We stayed at Tabacon Hot Springs resort and took some excursions we found on our own (Anywhere Costa Rica Hanging Bridges combo tour without a hot spring - contact them for this option, Disafio Rio Toro rafting Class 3-4 with coupon from pura vida eh! website, Arenal volcano NP hiking - too foggy when we went and would not recommend as highly as the first 2.) Rafting was outstanding. We then went to the beach on west coast to Montezuma. stayed at Ylang Ylang Beach resort and had a cabana on the beach. They have a hotel in town (10 min walk down the beach) which is a lot cheaper and you can use all facilities at Ylang Ylang. Cost included breakfast and dinner. We did a horseback ride down the beach to a waterfall that drops into the ocean. Snorkeling trip was ok but snorkeling not great there.
