Seattle Washington

How's the public transport? Is it easy to walk around the city?

H and I are going to Seattle in. Couple of weeks and I'm trying to decide if we should stay by the airport and take transit out to the city (we can walk around & take limited transit) then head back to the airport hotel at night. Or take transit to someplace within the city (to the hotel) from the airport (then just walk around the city).

Any recs on where to stay?

Don't stay by the airport. The hotels can be sketchy and there's really nothing around them within walking distance. Take the train to and from the airport (or a cab, or a shuttle) and stay downtown. The downtown core is very walkable, or if you wanted to go up to Capital Hill or to South Lake Union for the evening that's easy enough with the bus or streetcar.

That's good to know being within walking/ public transport distance is important. And I'm not a fan of seedy hotels.
  • Like MDgirl said, do not stay by the airport!! If you are trying to do the Seattle thing, book a hotel in Seattle close to downtown. They offer lots of metro in that area and a lot of places are within walking distance if you stay in that area.

  • Definitely stay downtown! We stayed at the University Inn near the University of Washington and just took the bus a few stops into right downtown http://www.universityinnseattle.com/
There is also a free bus that operates everyday in the downtown circle: http://www.downtownseattle.com/transportation/
