Vent with silver lining

So far, 2014 has been insane. The snow days of January, pondering my career options, my job change, many social plans, two birthday parties, spring break trip, plus lots of work commitments and travel for DH. 90% of it has been good stuff, but I have felt perpetually exhausted and I have gained back then ten pounds I lost in 2012. :-( I think it has been five or six weeks since I had the time or energy for weekly meal plan, and we haven’t had a date night in months.

I’m trying to focus on how lucky we are and be grateful that most of this insanity is good stuff, but I can’t help screaming in my mind I NEED A BREAK! Not a “day off” break, but like a month of normal schedules and few plans and monotony. ;-) I was originally going to suggest that we go somewhere for Memorial Day weekend, but now I’m all about having a “boring” weekend at home!

Is anyone else feeling similarly, or is this just my own brand of crazy?

P.S. My new job is great! :-)

Re: Vent with silver lining

  • Amen, sister. I feel the exact same way. We have and will have so many amazing opportunities this year with Casey's work - but at the same time, I'm exhausted and drained due to the nature of his schedule. The insanity we're experiencing is actually benefiting us greatly in so many ways, but that doesn't mean there some days that I don't want to cry uncle.

I, too, am trying to keep it in perspective and acknowledge that everything is a massive give and take. I just wish it was coupled with a little LESS take.

    Hang in there!

  • I was thinking that too! I feel like from Halloween to June is always crazy! I know I put a lot on myself with planning things. Like I'm working on dd's bday party and am doing a lot of crafty things. I don't have to but I want to...until I start feeling overwhelmed! I also have started doing some photography practice sessions on the side. While I like it, it's so much extra work!

I can't wait till June so I have a bit of a reprieve!

  • Date night. what's that?  Dh and I said way back when that we would do a date night once a month.  Ha!  I don't remember that last date night we had.  Our anniversary is on Monday and it looks like we might get  to pencil a dinner in for June.

  • Yes- especially now with softball starting, we haven't sat down for a meal in 2 weeks!  No time to plan & I'm too exhausted to do anything else!   This weekend I am doing yard work before it gets out of control!

Congrats again on the job - glad you like it!  My partner does work for you guys, he reps all A&Es in town.

I'm glad my family isn't the only one not being fed proper meals!  I don't know why, i can't get my act together.  This week was just a wash, we had baseball related activities 3 nights this week.  Including tonight, and I have no idea what I'm going to throw together on the table when I get home before they have to run out the door!!

Same in our house!  Once soccer starts up, it's a lot quick meals during the week.  I figure as long as they have food in their body, I'm still doing okay.  ;)
  • Amber, that's my motto at this point, too.  Jake comes home starving after baseball, regardless of what I give him for dinner, so I figure he's at the very least definitely getting enough calories considering he comes home and eats his way through fruit, yogurt, string cheese, nutrigrain bar...whatever he can get his hands on that's quick and there when he walks in the door!

  • Oh my goodness...yes, the sports! Right now it's been a couple nights a week and Saturday. But I think soccer starts next week so it will be Mon-Thurs with sports! I am ok with a couple quick meals but 4 a week? I really need to come up with some ideas!

  • For us it is the end of the year activities more than sports. We have soccer one night a week from 5:30-6:30. No way to eat before, so we usually go to a nearby Eat'n Park after.

Now that H is at the gifted center, we essentially have three schools...and all three have several end of year functions in April and May. We had two in the same week last week. And one of them only provided cookies and juice. Great dinner...I had to give them a snack when we got home which caused a late bedtime. :-(

  • I am glad your new job is so awesome!  Sorry to hear the rest of life is leaving you feeling frazzled.  I am immune to that, because when I am overwhelmed with obligations I shut down. So, I just don't do all the things.
