Reading Lottery: A World Away (ns)

@Shepherdjel recommended this book and I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise. Amish fiction isn't something I thought I would be interested in. I did end up enjoying the book. It was a quiet book.

The one thing that annoys me (and this is a trend in YA fiction also) is that kids are expected to make a decision that determines what is going to happen for the rest of their lives when they are 16 years old! I am very glad I didn't have to plan my whole future at 16!

  • Oh, I read this one! I liked it too, but it's not something I would have picked up on my own. As you said, I don't read much Amish fiction.

    I wrote this!
  • This was the only Amish fiction I read but I was very intrigued! Rumspinga is something that I believe does really happen, so making life changing decisions at 16 is normal and done all the time in that culture. I agree I would not want to make those kinds of decisions so young!

    Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
