Cats Revolution Alternative

Hi everyone! I haven't posted anything on this board before, but I have a question for all cat owners out there. I have two cats that are on Revolution to protect against parasites including heartworm, but it is pretty expensive stuff. I'm thinking of switching them to just anti-heartworm medication. They are strictly indoor cats with the exception of going out on my screened in porch. However, during the summer I don't let them outside, so I'm not so worried about them getting parasites other than heartworm. So my question is this- what heartworm medication do you all have your cats on and how much does it cost a dose? Also, where did you find the best price on it? Thanks so much guys!

Re: Cats Revolution Alternative

  • We use revolution, it's less expensive if you buy it 12 months at a time.  we do not use it on the animals in the dead of winter (December-March) so we can stretch 12 doses out over 16 months.  I think the cost breaks down to about $9/animal/dose.

in my mind it is just much less expensive to prevent the parasites than to potentiall have to treat for fleas, lyme disease, heartworm, etc.

In October my cat started pulling her hair out, she had bald spots on her belly, and legs, because we had been treating with revolution that covers most all parasites that would cause that, the vet was pretty confident to rule that out right away and move on to persuing other possible causes, that was so nice!

  • Intestinal parasites are just as big of a risk in indoor cats as heartworm however they are treatable. Heartgard makes a cat product for intestinal parasites and heartworms I believe.
