Freezing your Ovaries

Lurking over on TB I found this article.

Would you freeze your ovaries?  What are your thoughts on the article?

I can see the appeal in this, especially for a career-driven woman who knows she wants kids just not yet. But for me, I doubt I would do it. I would, however, definitely do it if possible in the case of cancer or something.

I think cancer or something of that sort is the only reason I would do it.

I think it's so amazing how far our technology has come and we have an ability to be able to do a procedure like this.

When they found the lumps in my breasts at age 21, I was given a million packets of information about my options with my breasts and other challenges I would face with having cancer at such an early age.  One of the options was this.  It was definitely something that H and I discussed.  We weren't married, but had been together 5 years at that time and knew we would want to get married and have kids someday.  

Thankfully the test was faulty and it turned out I did not have cancer.  But I think if it ended up being cancer, then I would've looked further into this option or freezing some of my eggs.

Of course it is an elective option that is not covered by insurance.  So that may have also swayed us away from this option.

I would have about a kabillion more questions about it.  But at face value, it does seem like it would be an interesting option in the context of a cancer diagnosis or something similar.  I also probably wouldn't consider it in any other scenario.

I definitely don't think I would have done that in my 20's, but like PP's if I had cancer, it seems like a no brainer.

I don't understand the appeal of this when you can just freeze eggs. Maybe I missed something.
