So I know I posted a few weeks ago when we decided to adopt our new puppy, Elphie. Well she's been really sick since Thursday. We've taken her to the vet twice and have to drop her off again in the morning, and they still aren't sure what's going on. She's been throwing up and had diarrhea since then. When we took her Saturday, they found worms and gave her medicine for that, and then gave her 2 antibiotics.

Sunday and Monday you never would have known she was sick, she was running around, playing, having a great time. Today, she stopped eating again and started back vomiting and with the diarrhea. We took her back and they have done tests and x-rays and aren't sure what's wrong. They gave her pain meds, another antibiotic, and told us to try and get her to drink powerade mixed with water to get electrolytes. They're doing  a test tomorrow to see if for some reason her stomach isn't draining right.

I could use some T&P right now, I'm worried about my little bit!

  • :(  T&P for you!  It's so tough when pets are sick.  I once had to take Rhett to the cat emergency room (it's a thing ok) and I sobbed the whole way there.

Maybe she just ate something funny or has a sensitive tummy :)

  • Thanks, ladies! I'm still waiting to hear from the vet :-/

Evan, I know there are emergency vets!! We luckily haven't had to use one, but we've strongly considered it.

  • Thank God for the emergency vets! My kitty had fleas and a temperature of 107 degrees, along with a UTI.  I was gone for one weekend (left him with my parents) and he got everything all at once, I felt so, so terrible.  They looked at me like I was an animal abuser!  Worst feeling ever.

Hope you get good news soon!

  • Alright, I've got little bit home with me. The vet is back to thinking that it is distemper and that the reason it took so long for her symptoms to appear is because it's become neurological and so it took longer to get there. They gave her fluids, an anti-nausea shot to stop her vomiting, and finally got her to eat some food.

They sent us home with a set of pills that do the same anti-nausea and gave us a prescription for the food they fed her. It's supposed to be easy on the tummy. She's sleeping right now and has had a little bit of water. We'll try to feed her a little bit tonight and get the other medications they had previously prescribed into her. We go back on Saturday to see how she's doing. Luckily he's convinced she will recover fully, but he can't guarantee it. I'll feel better when she's completely out of the woods!
