Closing and moving in

How long so people wait to move in house after closing. We are planning on starting the same day. It's a new construction house

Re: Closing and moving in

  • We are planning on same day, because it is the last day of the month and we don't want to spend another month of rent for no reason.

  • Is it a new construction? How do you feel about the closing? Have the bank and your realtor been communicating with you good?
  • We aren't planning on moving big items until Sat. We do plan to clean and sterilize the home bc of the construction debris being left behind. My plan is to clean and outline all cabinets while hubby put up the curtains and shower door on Friday. Then move big furniture on Sat. @april is you house brand new? Are they completed with your house. Just found out appraiser is coming today.
  • Ok.....good luck!!!
  • We closed on a Tuesday (4/29), moved on a Saturday (5/3).  Our landlord was flexible with us and allowed us to stay the extra 3 days into May.  We did a thorough cleaning before we moved in, but we're living through remodeling/painting, etc.

    Congratulations on your upcoming closing!

  • The house we plan (if inspection/appraisal are okay) on buying is closing on Tuesday August 5th. We don't plan to move in until the 23/24th or 30/31st weekend. BUT that is only because we are buying a fixer and plan to paint the inside, take out the carpet, put in hardwood floors, and clean it up. I'm glad we are closing towards the beginning so we can get work done on it before moving our things in. Good luck on the closing and moving right on in! :)

You have to wait around 3 months to close on the house?  I find that very unusual...  Are you in the US?
Yes, it is a short sale. Those normally take 60-90 days or even longer sometimes. It's fine for us since we can just keep on saving while we wait.

Interesting...  I thought that once the bank approved the short sale price that is progressed more or less the same as a "regular" sale.  I always heard that the waiting really came in at the beginning after the actual seller accepted the offer but waiting on the bank to approve.

    Good luck!
We are waiting for the lender's approval. The seller's broker just sent it to the lender/bank yesterday. My real estate agent and their broker thinks they should respond within 45 days. We did a 90 day closing date because that's what their broker said would be best. We could always change the date after the lender approves it - it would require everyone to sign an addendum, but we are just going to keep it if the bank approves it fast. It works for us so we can save up more money. And thanks! I hope it all works out smoothly. :)
