Getting Diamond Reset

Our 10 year anniversary is coming up and I'd like to get my engagement ring diamond reset. Right now, it's in a Tiffany solitaire setting, but I'd like to get a cathedral solitaire setting so that it goes with my cathedral channel set wedding band. This is something that I've been wanting to do for a long time. Heck, it's something that I should have done from the get-go, but I was 21 when I picked out the ring.

If you've had your diamond(s) reset, what did you learn from the experience? How did you make sure you got your diamond back?

Re: Getting Diamond Reset

  • I am in the process of having my diamond reset in a custom-made mounting that I found on-line (ebay, actually) and liked, so I took the picture in to my jeweler and made a few alterations to my specifications.  I just approved the final wax this week, so I am anxious to actually get it on my finger.  It's been a long process, as I have made a couple of changes as we've gone, but I will have exactly what I want at the end, and it should be finished for our 10th anniversary.

In terms of making sure you get your diamond back, I would first make sure to choose a reputable jewler.  I actually used to work at the jeweler where I took my ring, so I have total confidence in getting my stone back.  Your jeweler should be able to plot your stone for you under a gemscope (marking the inclusions, etc.) if your diamond is not gemscribed.  Keep the sketch and then compare it to your stone when it comes back.

Good luck!  Hope you enjoy the finished product!
