hello and kitchen ?

Hello!! :D

Backstory: We moved into my in law's house and they are in the process of moving to MI. We are going to be renovating the house big time. They are the only owners and the house is 33 years old.

The first thing we are going to tackle is the kitchen. We love IKEA but priced it out at around $4500. We currently have about $2200 saved. Ive been getting all sorts of estimates. How much has a kitchen renovation cost (estimated)?

Maybe Im just overwhelmed.

Re: hello and kitchen ?

  • You will need at least $10k, even if you are going with IKEA for the cabinets. Was the price out that you did just for the cabinets? If so, that will not include the delivery, assembly, or installation. In addition, you will likely need to purchase a new sink, upgrade plumbing, countertops, backsplash, potentially get new appliances, paint and flooring, and possibly update electrical, especially if the house is 33 years old and it hasn't been done since it was built. There is a lot more to a kitchen renovation than you may think, and if $2200 is all you have saved, I wouldn't even consider a renovation right now.
  • The $4500 is the floors, counter, sink, cabinets, backsplash. We just got appliances so won't need those. We have the paint bought already.

$4,500 is a great price. We are budgeting about $10k-12k to remodel the kitchen excluding appliances. You probably want to do it the ikea way if it is that cheap.
