Happy Friday! What are you reading?

So how do you like it so far? Is it for any of the challenges? June starts this weekend?! Where did May go? So are you looking forward to hot summer weather or could you skip right to the cool heading to fall?

This weekend I'll start Museum of Extraordinary things which a friend at work lent me. I love the water and beach/boating in the summer as I live only a mile from the water but I could do without the traffic, humidity and I guess I'll be skipping my visits out to the hamptons this summer since the kardash. will be there. I'll skip that circus thanks!

  • I'm reading The Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. It's #34 for the year. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I prefer my weather to be partly sunny and mid to upper 70s. So I'm not looking forward to the 80-90+ degree days we get here during the summer at all. It also gets really humid here, which makes it so much worse.

  • I'm finishing up Kitty Takes a Holiday (Kitty Norville #3).  I'm really enjoying the series.  I'm hoping to finish tonight so I can start the second Age of X book by Richelle Mead. #43

I'm listening to an AEITB as a re read for the release of MOBY.  I'm not sure I'll finish in time, but I plan on savoring MOBY, so I'm not worried about starting release day. I say that, of course, until it shows up on my doorstep. #44

  • I am about 900 pages into Dust of Dreams, which is book 9 of Malazan book of the fallen. It has been really good. I can say the same about Daughter of Smoke & Bone, even though I'm about two thirds of the way into that.

May sure did breeze on by. I am looking forward to the hotter weather. This weekend I am really looking forward to our NE G2G. We also have a trip planned out to Las Vegas towards the end of June. My MIL is getting a work award so we are going out to support her.

I'm listening to The Secret by Julie Garwood.  It's one of my favorites by her.

I'm picking up AEITB this weekend in the hopes that I can finish it by the 10th.  Believe it or not, I only read it once when I originally got it.  I never picked it up again so I'm a bit hazy on the storyline through there.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • I'm reading The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom. I just started it and it's okay so far, I'm reading it to fill the "religious book" category for SBC.

We're heading up north this weekend and will have a few hours in the car so we're going to listen to The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. I'm reading this one for the "title with 6 or more words".

My book club just selected Wild by Cheryl Strayed for our June book and I ordered The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers for the book lottery because my library doesnt have it :( so those are on deck!

I'm definitely looking forward to summer. We're surrounded by lakes here in Michigan and I plan on spending a lot of time on the water this summer. Not to mention that we had the worst winter ever and broke records with the amount of snow we had. Bring on the sun and the heat!
  • I'm reading Beautiful Chaos, it is #69 for the year, it's alright and I hope to finish it up tonight.

I'm also reading Code Name Verity, it is #70 for the year and I'm really enjoying it this time around, I had abandoned it last year.

I'm listening to 1984, it is #71 for the year, it's one of my favorite books and I wanted to do give listening to it a try.

I'm reading Native Son by Richard Wright, Roots by Alex Haley and Hold Tight by Harlan Coben. I'm really enjoying Roots ... fantastic. Native Son is pretty good, too. But, Hold Tight isn't doing it for me. I'm listening to it and the "voices" are really bothering me with this one. Otherwise, it's an ok story.

They are all for the challenge.

I'm not looking forward to summer hot/humid. We didn't get a spring and I feel jipped by that. I don't like going from 50's straight to 80's/90's. Ugh! Oh well ... it won't last forever.  :)  That's why there's air conditioning!  ;)

I'm reading Plastic Purge: How to Use Less Plastic, Eat Better, Keep Toxins Out of Your Body and Help Save the Sea Turtles by Michael San Clements.   I was expecting it to be dry and a little boring, but it's really interesting.  Honestly, it's shocking how much I didn't know about how much of this there is and where you can find it.

I should finish The Fiery Cross today. I am reading it when I can and listening to it inbetween. I don't know if I will start ABOSA today or if that will be tomorrow.

I love summer. The sun, warmth, kayaking, cottaging, shorts, dresses, skirts. So nice! But in mid to late Aug I start to look forward to fall.
  • I'm finishing Push Girl, and Hollow City by Ransom Riggs, and am starting the audiobook for BJ Novak's 'One More Thing:Stories and Other Stories'.

I'm just ready to go swimming. It's been raining off an on this week and I would love for clear skies this weekend to go for a dip.

I'm listening to The Maze Runner as a reread so I can finish the series. I don't really like the narrator'narrator's voice. It's a little too Movie Phone for me.

I'm listening to 1776 by David McCullough and completely loving it.  I didn't realize how excited about the American Revolution I was until I started the Presidential Challenge and really started learning more about it.  Now I want to read all the books and visit all the places!

I just started reading The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon last night.  I've seen the Sinatra version of the movie (but not the newer Denzel version), and for whatever reason I was expecting sort of a deep, darkish piece of literature, but this reads almost like Christopher Moore or Carl Hiassen writing military/war/politics.  It's sort of funny, and only 30 pages in, a lot lighter than I was expecting.  I'm enjoying it.

These are books 27 and 28 for the year, so I'm soon to top my final total of 30 from last year already.  That was my only goal for this year, so good for me.

BRING ON SUMMER!!  I'm so done with these 40 degree nights and early mornings.  I can't wait to swim in the ocean and float my pregnant ass around a pool.
  • I'm listening to Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill.  I love this series and this one is a lot of fun so far.

I'm STILL trying to finish The Golem and the Jinni.  I have a little under 100 pages left, but it's just not doing anything for me.  I have been trying to get through it for months.

I love summertime and when our days get longer because I have more time for fun after work during the week.

Ok, I have to try this book now.  I love Carl Hiassen's older books, so it sounds like it could be really good.

  • I'm listening to The Thirteenth Child.  It is really good.  I bought it because it was described as Laura Ingalls meets Harry Potter. Sold!

I just started reading The One and Only this morning, so I have no opinion so far.

  • I am reading Sense and Sensibility.  I finished Pride and Prejudice last night, technically today.

I love the activities that go along with summer.  I love biking, hiking, camping, swimming, canoeing....
But, I do have a harder time functioning when it's very hot.  I like cool summer days with a breeze.
I get Lyme flare ups a lot in the summer.
But I do like not having to lotion up my skin as much because in the Winter that lotion is on alllll the time.

  • I'm reading Letters From Skye by Jessica Brockmole.  I just started it last night but so far it's good.  It's 24/52 for the year.

I like summer because I'm a teacher, but weather-wise, spring is my preference.

I'm reading The Museum of Extraordinary Things. I'll finish it this weekend. It's better than I thought it'd be. It's for my IRL book club. It's number 19 for the year.

I am looking forward to summer since I'll be home with my daughter and am due July 4th with my second.

Like I said, I'm only 30 pages in, so it may change, but it's intended as satire, so I assume it's going to stay like this.

I just finished Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta this morning. Maybe I'm burning out on fantasy or my mind is just restless and preoccupied with other things, but I can't seem to really get immersed in anything lately. I thought the characters were well done, especially Evanjalin, and I liked it well enough, but at the same time, with the style of the narrative I felt kind of at arm's length from the characters and their emotions.

Only 10 more hours left in The Wise Man's Fear audiobook- woo hoo! I can't wait to be done with this and start on of my Sync books.

I'm at 30 for the year.

With the weather we have in July in August, I spend a lot of time indoors. I love taking a weekend getaway to Utah though and enjoying the much more reasonable weather.
