How long should I give seller to respond to offer for 1st home?

My fiance and I made a fair offer on our 1st house yesterday morning that has only been on the market for 6 days. We offered the asking price with 3% seller's assist which we think is a good offer. We gave the sellers 1 day to respond to offer and this morning the listing agent said that her sellers need "a few more days" to discuss the offer. They claim that such a quick offer caught them by surprise and that they need to figure out the closing of the house they are buying and time it with the house they are selling. I am not sure of how much of this is true and how much is just smoke why they try to get other offers. The listing agent has also said that they currently have no other offers. Should we give them more time? not real sure how to deal with this but it is kind of stressing me out! Thanks in advance for the advice!

Re: How long should I give seller to respond to offer for 1st home?

  • Giving a few days is pretty standard.  I wouldn't look askance at that.  My agent wrote two offers for me for different homes and she gave the seller's 3 days to respond in both instances.

It's been a few days since you posted, what happened :).
