Best price for Disney cruises?

We're planning to take a Disney cruise mid-late 2015. When is the best time to travel as far as getting the best deal? Where can we find the best price? Are there cheaper places than booking on the Disney cruise site? We don't care what month we sail as long as it's after May/June 2015. Any tips? There will be 5 of us traveling (DH and I and our 3 boys) and our only "must" is a room with a balcony. Briefly looking on their site, it looks like it'll be around $6k to get on the ship with that room, not counting any travel to the port or any excursions. Does this sound right, too high?

Re: Best price for Disney cruises?

  • Best time to take a cruise if you want to save money is in the fall, also known as Hurricane Season.  It can be chancy with the weather, but if your willing to risk it, go for it.  I tend to think booking directly through Disney often saves the most money because they are usually willing to inform you of any discounts available.  Also, if you are flexible with your travel dates, booking last minute can get you huge discounts.  Granted, you have to settle for whatever rooms are left over, but you can usually score huge.

  • Disney cruise lines also leave from Vancouver BC going up to Alaska so you would NOT have to worry about hurricanes. You would, however, have to contend with colder weather going up to Alaska if you are looking at Fall 2015 ;)

We just booked 5 day Disney cruise out of Florida with friends in March or $3k

Best price we've seen.  that's a 4 member family with a balcony room  we can not wait!!

  • We just got back from a week-long Disney cruise in the Western Caribbean, and for family cruising with kids, I don't think Disney could be beat.  The rooms were way more spacious than I feared (there were four of us in one balcony room; my boys used bunk beds (ages 7 and 11) and we also had a murphy bed we didn't use).  The split bathrooms and room-dividing curtain really made getting ready with that many people a breeze.  We also felt that there was enough room to stow all our stuff so it wasn't always out and in our way.  Some of the best advice we were given was to bring a shoe organizer to hang shoes and cosmetics and to bring clothes pins for the drying lines in the shower.

As for price, we booked through Costco and saved a little and received a couple hundred dollars on-board credit.
  • Yeah I was going to recommend Costco Travel as well.
  • I just wanted to come back and say that we received our gift card to Costco for the booking.  It was for $750!  And the cruise was cheaper (a little) than booking elsewhere.
  • Well as a former Disney Cruise Line emplyee I can tell you that the period between September and December/January (with exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Year's Season) it's cruiseline's lowest season.

Some ships, specially Disney Dream (Port Carnaveral - Nassau - Castaway Cay), lower the prices to really nice rates just to fill has much as they can the ships. The cost of doing the trips is always pretty much the same so they lower the prices to really good numbers. I suggest you go around to different agencies and see what you can get.

Go either for the Disney Dream or the Fantasy since they are the most modern ships of the fleet and you all will have a lot of fun.
