Visiting MD in a couple of weeks, have some questions.

Hey there Baltimore gals. We will be spending a few days in Aberdeen at the end of July but will be driving into Baltimore one day to catch an O's game. I have heard that Baltimore can be unsafe if you don't know your way around (sorry if I'm making wrong assumptions) so I just wanted to ask how the area around Camden Yards is. We thought we might stop by Babe Ruth's birthplace before the game too. Is there anything else to do in town and what areas should we avoid? Thanks.

The area around Camden Yards is perfectly safe.  In general, you want to stay closer to the waterfront.  The farther you get from the water, the area can get a little dicey, particularly at night. You should (obviously) use your judgment and be prudent in general. But Baltimore is definitely not as bad as its reputation.  Downtown, you can walk along the waterfront, check out Fells Point (historic), there are some old ships, good restaurants and cafes.  You can hop on the water taxi and check out Fort McHenry too.
