A poll about wisdom teeth

Have you had yours removed?
If so, how old were you?
Did anything traumatic happen to you before/during/after the surgery?

Brought to you by my friend in her mid 30s who just had hers taken out and my being surprised that someone of that age would need to get this particular procedure done.

Re: A poll about wisdom teeth

  • I still have mine.

  • I got mine out when I was 22. Three were impacted and had to be surgically removed and the other one pulled. They did everything at the same time.

It wasn't that bad of a surgery/recovery. One did get infected and I was put on antibiotics when I went in for a post op check up.

  • I had mine removed when I was 18. It was an easy procedure and I had no complications.

Ben still has his wisdom teeth but needs them taken out, they bother him regularly.

I had mine taken out when I was 18. All four were impacted, so I was put to sleep when they took them out. The most traumatic thing about it was the bill I was responsible for paying ten years later, despite being on my mom's dental insurance at the time.

ETA: It was the first time I'd ever heard of the fact that I owed the money & some attorney in VA Beach froze my dad's bank account because my name was on it. So that was fun.
  • I had mine taken out when I was about 19 I think? It was a pretty easy procedure. I'm pretty sure I went out that night. H, on the other hand, had his taken out when he was 22 and it was awful. He got two dry sockets.

  • I had mine taken out when I was in high school.  I can't remember my exact age.  I discovered that I'm allergic to Percocet shortly after the procedure, so that was fun.  And I had 5 wisdom teeth.  The extra one was not covered by insurance.

Interesting!  I guess I always figured that if you didn't have them removed in your late teens/early 20s, then yours don't need to be removed.
  • I had mine out 8 years ago so I was in my late 20's. I had no problems except the swollen chipmunk teeth. DH was about 30 and ended up with a dry socket b/c he ate real food before he was supposed to do it.

  • I had mine out at 20 and Chase was 10 months old maybe? He was all over the place while I was trying to recover, it was a mess. The procedure itself was not bad.

I originally was told I didnt have any. My mom doesnt. But then magically they appeared at like 17 or something and I had to have them out. I just think the dentist screwed up and didnt see them.

Oh my gosh, at first I thought you meant he was 10 months old when he got his wisdom teeth removed!  I was about to call the Guinness World Records!
