Stairs as issue?

My husband and I decided we would do my college graduation party at our home. My awesome mother (and I truly mean that) will be taking over most of it. Where she is from, they type of college education I have received does not happy to very many, so it is a huge deal for her and my dad. We have a basement that we are currently finishing with a bathroom and a bar. Upstairs we have a semi-open concept home was well. Mom thinks that if we rearrange for guests upstairs, almost like a lounge style, for guests who may struggle with the steps. We would set up downstairs as well and the backyard with games such as horseshoes and other simple ones to play.

We have between a tex-mex, "tea party" with salads, or a BBQ. What style do you believe would be the best and would it offend the guests if we had a two level party set-up?

I don't know if you still need a response to this--but I think a multi-level party is fine.  My DH's grandmother uses a scooter and can't do steps at all--it never stops us from using the basement or backyard at parties.  Just make sure that whoever can't do the steps isn't left behind.

Also--congrats on your college graduation.  Don't cut yourself short-continuing education outside of high school can be difficult and you did it!  Celebrate!

  • Thank you! I love to plan parties, but I am always worried about being rude to my guests! We were thinking about having part of the party downstairs, and part of the party upstairs.
