I just had to share my good news!
Ever since I became a librarian, I've been commuting to a different county to work. Because my husband's job requires that we live in a certain county, I've been trying to find something closer to home for years. Well, this week I got a job offer at a local public library that's only 10 minutes down the road from my house!
It's a Teen Librarian position doing collection development and programming, which is exactly what I want to do. The library just renovated and created a brand new teen area, and this is a new position so I will get to be creative and try new things.
AND I'll get to work fewer hours at a higher pay rate, so we'll have more income in the end. Now I can afford the daycare that I like best, and the hours work perfectly with the daycare schedule. Plus I'll have evenings and most weekends off and be eligible for benefits.
I almost didn't apply for the job since I'm 8 months pregnant and was nervous about interviewing, but I'm so glad I did. I'll start the new job soon and then take a maternity leave in September/October. I will miss my current co-workers, but I think this new job will give me a better work/life balance and the job duties are more aligned with my interests. Anyway, just wanted to share!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
