A Little Princess (SuBC and spoilers)

I read this for the Matchbook novels list category. I'm pretty sure I'd read it when I was young, but it would have been 20+ years ago. I knew the plot, but not the details.

I really enjoyed it! Someone I'm friends with on GR from here talked about the idea that Sara is a Mary Sue (a female protagonist who is unnaturally sweet and empty, with little to no character development or negative qualities) and argued against that idea. I loved this review. I agree. Sara was so positive thinking, but it seemed to be more that obliviousness that made her that way.

I knew it was coming, but I was so sad when her dad died. He seemed to love her so much.

If you haven't read it, it's a quick and easy classic to pick up.

  • FHB was one of my favorite authors growing up. I loved The Secret Garden, as well, and read both TLP and TSG multiple times. Your post has made me want to pick them both up again!
