Where do you shop for work clothes?

I just started a new job about a month ago, and the dress code is slightly more professional that my previous job. When I go shopping for "business formal" attire, everything looks like it belongs on a 50 year old. (I'm almost 30). I feel like I'm in a transitional period with clothing in general, not wanting to seem like I'm trying to dress like I did when I was 20, but also not ready for Talbots either. But shopping for work is definitely a difficult area for me. Where do you shop for more formal work clothes?

Re: Where do you shop for work clothes?

  • Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, the Limited, and Nordstrom. I don't go into the office or court everyday but when I do I need suits or nice business dresses. I get a lot of things online. Express is hit or miss. I'm 34, so sometimes I feel too old for Express and it's not professional enough.
  • I know you said no to Talbots, but check them out for some basic essentials that will last forever.  Dress pants, cardigans, cotton tops etc.....  I go there for some key pieces, and am in my 30's.  However, I will agree that some of their stuff is meant for Nana :)
  • TJ Maxx and NY&Co

  • The LOFT is my favorite but I've also had good luck at NY&Co as well as the GAP. If you've got the patience to check out places like Ross, TJMaxx, etc those are good options as well.
  • White House Black Market, Ann Taylor (not Loft, the upscale one), Banana Republic, The Limited.
  • I love Banana Republic, mainly because their clothes fit me well and they almost ALWAYS have some kind of sale online. I also found out that you can get the online deals in the store if you ask.

I also love Halogen at Nordstrom, the Gap, and Ann Taylor. J. Crew sometimes, because its pretty pricey.
  • Hi wareagle84, I'm 37 and don't like to look like an old lady either, so I usually shop at Banana Republic, LOFT, The Limited and Ann Taylor for work clothes. Check out my blog for work outfit ideas: www.mahsatousi.com, more to come soon, you can also follow me on Instagram and Pinterest. Good luck!
  • NY & CO, H&M, The Limited (my fave)
  • Express or Ann Taylor LOFT
  • LOVE TJ Maxx and Banana Republic.

My heart is as open as the sky.

  • love kohls (trying to get out of there but thats proving to be hard) i did get a few things from tj maxx
  • Being well dressed at work is important as it indicates how we view ourselves within our organization. There are plenty of stores to buy an elegant work wear like showpo where you can get smart clothes that make you feel comfortable and ready for work.
  • Dresseslover.com & Gedengni.com, I think
  • It is so hard.  I opt for dresses just because they're just easier for me. @wareagle84

NY&co has good sales and like the other ladies mentioned.  The limited is pricey but their clothes last.  So does Victoria Secret.  I bought pants from them over five years ago.  A button on one of the pants fell off.  No tearing, no wear.  I'm 29 now and I look like I'm 18 so I've been trying to dress my age without dressing like an old lady like you said.  I got a couple of drape blouses from vs.

Keep your eyes peeled for the sales.  Congrats on your better job.

  • There are so many online stores from where your can buy formal attire for your job. Different men wear brands have also their active online store which sell office wear at affordable cost. Do Google, you will find what you want.
