Who's done a color run? Question

There's a color run in my area coming up. I missed a few ones this summer and want to do this one. I was thinking of taking dd. One if her friends did one and her mom said they had a blast.

I talked with dd about it and she's worried about the color on her skin and hair. I can cover her up a decent amount but I'm assuming she will still come out with it everywhere. How easy is it to get the color off skin and hair particularly blonde hair (dd's is dark blonde). I think as long as we can get it mostly off her skin and out of her hair afterwards she should be ok.

I'm thinking I can put her hair in a bun and then put a hat on or something to at least minimize it.

Has anyone done one with their kid? I hadn't thought about it before but when her friends mom said they did it I thought dd might have fun. I never know with her though!

  • I did one last year and I also have blonde hair...I will say it was tough to get out of my hair!  I was hosting a baby shower at my house later that day and I kept having to get back in the shower to wash my hair again because I would get out and realize I still had green in there, lol.  The color seemed to cling most to the places where I was super sweaty (so under my arms, my hairline, etc)

  • I ran the same one with Emmy last year. My hair is dark, but I was still wary about color sticking, so I wore a bandana over mine and it helped (I had no issues after). I agree with Emmy-  sweatier places required a bit more scrubbing, but it wasn't bad. Also my piece of advice to anyone running a color run is keep your mouth closed as you go through the color stations :)
  • My sis did one on the day of my cousin's wedding.  She came to my house to clean up and get ready.  She did have some problems on her hairline, and a few places on her elbows/arms.  She thinks it was directly related to her sunscreen, though.

My sis had talked about taking my S with her, but she said she was glad she didn't.  She said it was very thick in some places, made her cough, etc.  S had JUST turned 3 the week before, so he is on the small side.  An older kid may be able to deal better.

I can't believe your sister did one the day of a wedding! That's awesome though!!

Dd is 6 and this is a local generic color run...not an official one. So I'm hoping it's not as big or as crazy as the official color run and not as intense with the color!

    Thanks for the tips ladies!

The run was at 10 and the wedding was at 3:00, so she had plenty of time.  (She wasn't in the wedding.  But I DID the wedding, so no color for me.  Not that I run.  Ever.)  She tied a scarf around her hairline and called it a day.  It actually looked cute!  :-D

I did two last year, and my main tactic was not getting too close to those spraying/throwing the color. I didn't have too much trouble getting the color out, though my sports bra still has some color bomb stains on it a year later.

I'd have her run in a hat, and put her in a light weight long sleeve shirt if she really doesn't want it on her skin.

I had a lot of fun with these races.
