Chicago

We've booked a trip to Chicago for August. I've been hearing of a lot of shootings recently. Do you think it's still ok to travel there?

Re: Chicago

  • That doesn't seem to be anything new in big cities like Chicago.  I'm from the Detroit area and it happens here pretty regularly too.  I'm sure you'll be fine; my guess is most of that stuff happens in the neighborhoods rather than in the downtown touristy area.  I could be wrong, but it can't hurt to research where these are actually happening.  Maybe try local news websites for them.

  • You may have already gone on your trip but as long as you're not going near the west side and a few south side neighborhoods you'll be totally fine. Downtown is fairly safe and I've never felt like I was at risk in the loop (touristy things, theatres, etc), near the lake, at any museum campus. If you've already been, hopefully you had a good time here!
