Day Trip to the Beach

We are thinking of taking little guy for his first trip to the shore.  I was thinking Ocean City, NJ, but if you can believe it, I haven't been there since I was a child!  Any tips as to a good beach spot, etc.?  TIA!

We just took B to Ocean City a couple of weeks ago and she loved it! I hadn't been there in a long time either, and DH and I also really enjoyed it. We went to the 9th street beach and it wasn't very crowded on a weekday (and was also close to the music pier which had pretty clean restrooms/changing tables). There was a parking lot right at the bottom of the ramp to the boardwalk ($10 for the day), so we just parked there rather than dealing with metered/street parking. We were able to rent an umbrella from a vendor on the beach (also $10, I think) and they set it up for us. So, that was one less thing to lug down with us just for a day. We spent about two hours on the beach until she got antsy and then another couple of hours strolling around the boardwalk and stopping for pizza and ice cream. She loved playing with the sand--we had a little shovel and bucket for her--and watching the other little kids and the seagulls. There was a little complex with games and rides further down the boardwalk, but we didn't check that out because she fell asleep after lunch. Definitely a fun day!
  • Thanks for the tips!  I don't think he will be too keen on the beach, but little guy would live in his stroller if he could, so he will love the boardwalk and people watching.  Plus, the main staples at the shore are pizza and ice cream- and they are among his very few favorite adult foods.
