WIJFR: The Daughter of Smoke and Bone (SP)

edited July 2014 in Nest Book Club
Not, gonna lie, y'all...when I first started reading this, I thought all of you had lost your mind because I didn't like it.  I am SOOO glad i stuck with it past the first few chapters.  I really got into it and it got easier to read.  It's like there was so many pages of build up and then when I got about 60% of the way through is when stuff started happening.  I fell in love with Karou.  She was "spicy" and had so much personality.  I loved the fact that she questioned but had undying loyalty at the same time.  I loved Akiva and would like to meet someone that beautiful.
I completely love the idea that when two people are meant to be together, there is a connection that surpasses all time and circumstance.  You are drawn to that person...there is that undeniable pull.  Even when they didn't know who each other was, they fell in love.
What would you do if you were in that situation?  Would you forgive Akiva, who acted out of love in the end or would you want revenge?  I was kind of floored how everything tied up together and everyone became connected.   I was sad that Brimstone was gone...Obviously, I haven't read the second one yet--I really want to see what happens.

  • I can't even answer your questions because I've read them all and wouldn't dream of giving anything away.

Zuzana is my favorite. She brings a needed humor to the story. I love that Karou has a girlfriend to just girl talk with.

I thought the second book was a little more difficult to get through, but the third is an excellent conclusion. Just stick with them.

  • Right...I can't even say anything because you just need to read the other books now.

This series is so outside of anything I would ever normally read, but I loved it so much!
