Window treatment for hot apartment

Hello,

I am moving to a new rental apartment. The apartment is on the top floor, with a flat roof and hardly any windows that can open. In short: it easily gets very hot, without any real possibilities to cool it off again.
I guess good window treatment could help keep the apartment as cool as possible, but I'm not sure what would work best.

Personally I lean towards blinds, but that will also block the only window that can be opened.
Does anyone have experience of tips for this situation?

Sjoukje

  • I agree with april! Dark curtiains will definitely help you out :)
  • Go on Amazon and search for the Gila Window cling that reduces heat. On large windows it will take two people to hang, but all it needs is soapy water to cling so it's easy to remove once you move out. You can still see through the windows, although they will look a bit grey. We just put them up in our DDs bedroom for the heat problem due to direct sunlight. It works pretty darn well. We also have her draperies backed with 100% light blocking material that I bought by the yard at JoAnn Fabrics.
