Happy Friday! What are you reading?

Re: Happy Friday! What are you reading?

  • I am reading The Clockwork Angel (Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare.  I am only on chapter 6 but I think it has promise.

I think I am also going to start Close Your Eyes Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian today.  I have been looking forward to this one.

  • I'm 95% done with The Goldfinch. It's long and kinda depressing. When I finish it will be # 43 of my yearly goal of 52.

  • I am reading Uganda Be Kidding Me by Chelsea Handler. This is for a book club and it's a fast and funny read. It's the first I've read of hers. I plan to finish it this weekend.

I am listening to the Goldfinch. I may give up on this one. I am having a hard time getting in to it but keep hoping it will pick up.

This is #26 & #27 for this year.

  • Just started Magic Breaks last night. I stopped counting for the year.

  • I'm about 1/3 of the way through Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkenss and am enjoying it. It's been quite some time since I read the first book so some I forget some of the back story, but I feel like she's done a good job of bringing in details to help refresh my memory.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

I'm about to start the 4th Bride Quartet book by NR, Happy Ever After. I meant to finish the series a week ago but have been too busy. It will be 28/40. So far I'm 4 books ahead.

I'm not sure what I want to read after this. I really want to read The Book Thief but I keep putting it off until I have a good chunk of days to get absorbed by it and those days are not in the near future haha.

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

I'm loving it. It's spooky and mysterious and I love Rory's voice. I've laughed out loud a few times on her commentary on London living.

  • Finally finished The Casual Vacancy this morning.  Gosh, you know, I think I loved it!

Also reading Somewhere I'll Find You by Lisa Kleypas.  Kleypas is definitely my favorite guilty pleasure author.

  • Dreams and Shadows, by C. Robert Cargill. I am loving it. Lots of Fantasy and Magic, and plenty of creepy evil little creatures. It's gory, too, with face melting and bodies exploding and little trolls called redcaps that have to dip their hats in the blood of their victims to stay alive - if the hats dry out, they just cease to live as well. And there's a good, but cursed djinn (a genie) and changlings and - oh, just read it. It's funny and creepy and all that.

  • Still reading/listening to Under the Dome.

I also just started Rule by Jay Crownover. The main character is sort of an ass, but I wanted to read an NA book to see what all the fuss was about. The pacing is great, but the jury is still out for me.

  • I'm still reading WIMOHB.  It's #45 for the year.  I was hoping to finish it last night but that didn't happen.

  • I'm reading Savor the Moment by NR, life after life by Kate Atkinson for book club and the initiate by Veronica Roth since it was on hold from the library.
  • Just finished Make You Mine last night.  Loved it!  (book 23/35)

I started listening to The Maze Runner and am about 20 minutes into it.
I'm going to start reading Beautiful Addictions by @skeezon today, too.

    Books Read in 2016: 4/50

  • Reading: Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay (AMAZING) and The Girl In the Road by Monica Byrne (so far, so good)

Listening to: Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge (just ok)
    imageimage image
  • I'm reading Quiet by Susan Cain. She is giving a talk at my job for our "career development days" later this month and I want to attend so I thought I should read her book first. It's good but it's starting to drag a little for me.

I'm listening to Dragonfly in Amber.

  • Just finished Junkyard Dogs (one of Craig Johnson's Walt Longmire mysteries. Man, I cannot get enough of those books, so good). And just barely cracked Soulless, of the Parasol Protectorate series.

  • Currently working on the Goldfinch which will be number 9 for the year.  But it's long and kind of dragging.  I feel like it's going nowhere.  It started out so well and now I'm halfway through and nothing has really happened since the beginning of the book.  Ugh!

Next on the list is Atlas Shrugged.

  • I'm listening to Lolita, Jeremy Irons is the narrator, its for SuBC.  I'm reading WIMOHB, I'm about halfway through.  I'm really enjoying it, although it was dragging a little bit at the beginning.  I'm also sort of reading The Thirteen Tale by Diane Setterfield but every time I pick it up, I get distracted.

@nocturnalintimacy I love that series, the third book is supposed to come out some time next year.
