Ebola Outbreak

What are your thoughts on the two people being brought to the U.S. ? I think it is a very bad idea. It this spreads, we're screwed!!

Re: Ebola Outbreak

  • Read up on how Ebola is transmitted. It's not going to spread.
  • Yeah, this is so not a problem.
  • Hope you guys are right.
  • OMFG, take two seconds to Google and you'll see we are right.

"Exposure to ebolaviruses can occur in health care settings where hospital staff are not wearing appropriate protective equipment, such as masks, gowns, and gloves."

Which is why it's not something to worry about in the U.S.

    Wow! Relax man!!
  • do your research. Ebola is ALREADY in this country. It's held in several labs where it is being experimented with to attempt to find a vaccine/cure. The people who have been handling it in such places for 40 years are taking the same precautions the hospital in Atlanta is. Also the hospital in Atlanta has a wing just for this sort of thing and already houses patients with nearly identical diseases on a regular basis. We've had several people over the past 10 or so years all across America be diagnosed with Ebola-like diseases such as Lassa and Marburg. We've yet to have an outbreak of either of those. The media is hyping it thanks to the fact that the public has already been worked up by movies like Outbreak. It makes good ratings. You are in the same danger today from those two people coming here for treatment as you were yesterday from those other facilities (that may be closer to where you live too).

    No.
  • I think we are right to be alarmed about any geniune health threat and considering how it is spreading like wildfire in certain areas.

We never didn't need to be alarmed about what is going on however the panic over bringing the health workers back here for medical treatment was unfounded. The biggest threat we face from it is someone illegally crossing our borders having been exposed and then passing it on to our citizenry. It's a very real, very scary possibility. :( Even so it's not so much an airborne threat so it would not spread as rapidly say here or Canada as it has in places like Senegal and Liberia.
