Kitchen wall color with gray and white cabinets?

DH and I just redid our entire kitchen. New floors, backsplash, and painted the upper cabinets BM Simply White and lowers are BM Fieldstone. It's beautiful, but we are having trouble figuring out a color for the walls. I would like to do something a more neutral since our backsplash is a gray and white marble in a chevron pattern, but DH thinks we should introduce some color since it's all gray and white. I'm stuck! Any suggestions for some semi neutral colors that have a little color to them? The kitchen is also open to the living room which is painted SW Agreeably Gray so I want something that works with that too. Any ideas would be SO helpful!

Re: Kitchen wall color with gray and white cabinets?

  • You could do a color, but I prefer to introduce color in accessories, not in wall color, especially in a kitchen.  How about a coordinating, very light gray paint?  Then pops of something bright- I have yellow- in other things.  I have a yellow watering can out, black, white and yellow posters framed, plus yellow baskets- one on the island and one on the kitchen table.

I agree with all of this.  Keep the paint neutral, and find other ways to introduce some color. Bonus, it will be easier to change things up  in the future.

  • I'm really partial to grey and a light blue - something that has some grey tones in it.
  • Keep the pain neutral and add color with accesories like artwork, plates, baskets.
You can even add a rug, indoor/outdoor, in the kitchen.  This will give you the pop of color that you need.  And you can also pain the inside of your cabinet a fun color.
  • An easy solution to tying colors together is to use wallcoverings that match your color scheme.  In my opinion wallpapers are easier then painting
  • I would pull a light grey from the veining in your backsplash. Introduce color through accessories.
  • Accessorizeeee yellows, burgundies, or purples...any of those would be nice.
  • I like giving it a cream shade!
  • Try at this site http://caldwells.com/, they have several type of cabinet with quality and unique door for sale.

totally agree.  I love wallpaper for when I need to tie multiple colors together
  • I love a pop of bold color with the greys and whites. I say go bold with your accessories - if it was me, I would go with a rich eggplant purple. I would suggest something in a darker shade, nothing too pastel - contrast is a good thing, it moves the eye around the space. Don't be afraid of color, as long as you stick to a theme it's good to push yourself a little outside your comfort zone.

We have crisp white bead board cabinets and white subway tile, with dark wood floors. I painted the walls apple green. My mother in law thought I was crazy when she saw me open the paint can, but everyone who comes into my kitchen says "I want your kitchen" now. I'm a graphic designer though, so color doesn't intimidate me.

Totally agree!  I love bold colors mixed with neutrals.  Do you have a pic of your kitchen, MrsT4433?  I'd love to see it!
