Marple Newtown Township Schools

My husband and I are looking to relocate to PA and looking in a development in the Marple-newtown schools district.  I was wondering if there was anyone who could give feedback on the public schools there.  When we were initially looking, we read a lot about TE, Radnor and Lower Merion being great districts, but was curious how MN matched up.  I am not naive and don't expect to live in a the best in the country or anything like that, but it is a consideration before we move that it is a decent SD.

Re: Marple Newtown Township Schools

  • Radnor and LM are both tops in our region (and nationwide). I think TE and MN are both on par with each other and are a close second behind Radnor and LM. The reason I say this is that TE and MN likely spend less per student than Radnor and Lower Merion do.  That said, I'm rather confident that TE had higher PSSA scores than Radnor and Lower Merion, but I don't know that you can evaluate an entire district based upon standardized test scores.

There are additional good school districts around the ones you referenced above--Haverford, Great Valley, West Chester Area SD, Downingtown, Rose Tree Media.  I'm not sure if you are restricted to a certain geographic area for a job, or if you are looking for new construction or a specific price range for houses, but you may want to consider these additional SDs if you are coming up short on finding a house in the original districts listed above.
  • From my understanding, you would be fine with any that you mentioned!  Great Valley is also good, and taxes are lower in this area.  Downingtown has very high taxes, just food for thought!  Erbur made some other good recommendations for you.  Good luck, and welcome to PA!
