Baby Related: Clothes

So I was just talking with Mark and we thought this would be a good question to ask the board, since I'm definitely overthinking everything. As far as clothing goes, how many of each size did you have for baby? Like, how much is too much or too little for each size? I know there will be blow-outs, spit up, etc etc so there will definitely be costume changes ;) but I have no idea the best way to start preparing clothes-wise. Every time I start looking, I second guess sizes so I don't have anything. I'm wanting to primarily buy consignment store clothes since our local consignment store has the majority of their onesies for 99 cents each, so definitely not paying full price. And I'd definitely rather have too much than not enough.

Feel free to throw in any "I wish I had gotten..." items too!

Re: Baby Related: Clothes

  • I remember we barely had any newborn size. Abby fit into 0-3 months at birth and wore those even a little past 3 months. I'm not sure how many of each size we actually had. I can look through boxes tomorrow and get an idea. I would wait to buy the majority of things until after your baby shower. I got a few things here and there, but got so many clothes from the shower, I had more than enough.

  • I am not a mom so take this as you will but all my friends have had boys.  And with boys, they always were so close to the next size up.  So by 2 months, they were something that a 4 month could wear.  By 4 months, it was a 6-12 months stuff ect.

Maybe my friends have big babies?
  • We bought outfits in all sizes from 0-3 months up to 9 months at consignment. Every baby is different. Lily ended up wearing newborn for almost 3 months so after she was born we had to go buy clothes for her. But it was better than having a lot of newborn clothes and her not wear them. And leaves tags on stuff from the store in case you need to exchange. I left tags on all the baby shower stuff until we were approaching that size. Some stuff was the wrong season so I took it back and exchanged.

  • I am probably no help. I am a minimalist. I buy the least amount of everything. A weeks worth of each size except newborn. With newborn all I have done is socks, onesie with swaddle. I do laundry regularly. They grow so quick I think it is a bad investment to buy to many clothes.
  • I agree with Aleigha on not buying too much. I just did more laundry. Honestly with all the clothes from showers I didn't have to buy that much when she got into bigger sizes like 6 months. When I do buy them I like to consignment shop.

  • Thanks all! All of you just confirmed what I already thought, so thanks! I definitely don't want to go overboard, but also don't want to be doing laundry every other day. I definitely am going to stick to consignment stores, especially for clothes.

  • I bought way too much 3 month size and up and not enough newborn. Liliana didn't wear 3 month size until she was 3.5 months old. Some babies hardly wear newborn, so it just depends. I would buy 5-8 outfits in newborn size, 10-15 in 3 months, 10-15 in 6 months. It depends how often you want to do laundry.
