Well, I did it...

I dropped my baby off at kindergarten and lived to tell the tale.
:((
She did AWESOME!  No tears, she just jumped out of the car and followed the "big" kids.  There were always tears at preschool drop offs.

I on the other hand, came home and cried like a baby...

  • awww, big hugs!!  The first day was definitely the hardest, I promise it will get easier!  I'm glad to hear that she was ready to dive right in.  Mix yourself up a mimosa to get through the morning, mama! :)

  • such a big milestone!  I hope she has a great day!
  • So glad that it went well (well, for her!), I hope she has a great day!

Mason starts next week.  I'm pretty sure Rich is going to have to physically restrain me from getting on the bus.

  • Hooray for you!  Bittersweet I'm sure!  So glad she did well.  Make of list of all of the happy things K will bring for you and her so that when you get sad you can look at it and be reminded!
  • Exciting! I might be fooling myself but I don't think I will cry on thursday (first day). I am excited for her and this new chapter of growing up! Our school has the parents go the first day also. See if I still feel that way on Friday.
  • Awww, big hugs! I'm glad she did well, but totally understand the tears on your part!
  • Thanks for all the encouraging words.  This day was so emotionally draining for me, I almost forgot I have to do it again tomorrow!

  • Good job, mama!  We have that day coming up 9/2 and I'm dreading it.  Today was our orientation so I went with her for an hour and we met the teacher/saw the classroom.  I wasn't as emotional as I expected, but I think it will be a different story in 2 weeks.

I just keep telling myself that the other ladies on here are right, and it does get easier.  Besides, now you have the opportunity to focus some extra 1:1 time with DD2, right?

  • Aww, I can only imagine how difficult that was. Good for you for keeping it together until you got home. I'm sure she'll have lots of great stories to share!

Aww! It does get easier! That first day I dissolved into tears after she was on the bus and was so nervous all day. But it's such a great feeling to be back with them and hear how their day went!! Day 2 was definitely much easier!

I think she really liked it!  Dd was very excited that there is a playground AND a water fountain!  Today is gym day and she was pretty excited for that because she saw "a basketball court INSIDE the school!!!"
I just hope her excitement holds up even when the newness wears off.  So far so good!

And just when I thought I couldn't cry any more, the teacher sent home this poem about how she remembers how it feels taking her child to kindergarten and drive away crying.  But, she will love our kids like they are her own....cue the tears

  • Aw, that poem from the teacher must have been rough!!!!

At least she's acknowledging the hard stuff, though.  I'd be cheesed off if a teacher blew off the significance of what it meant to send your LO off to school for the first time.  And I know it always makes me feel better when other people confirm "Yup.  It's hard."  Just knowing I'm not the only one to struggle/be sad is sometimes enough to get me through!

How did the 2nd day go?
