Re: QOTD 8/19

  • Yes!

The last time I locked myself out was when we were in our old townhouse. H was out of town for the weekend and my mom came to visit. My mom and I were going to the mall, we both thought the other person had the house keys. The door closed behind us, and we realized that we were locked out! Of course it was the weekend, and the townhouse rental office was closed. I had to call the emergency maintanence number and, since it was after hours, I had to pay $40 to have them come to let me in.

  • We were locked out on Sunday. We beat my parents back to the house and didn't have a house key. We can usually get in through the garage, but someone locked the interior door to the garage. This happens all the time.

  • I'm almost ocd about locked doors.  Before DH I lived in a apartment by myself for 3-4 years.  Living alone really gets you in the habit of locking doors.

Anyway, I locked myself in the garage two winters ago.  It was before work in the morning.  I ran in the garage to grab something and locked the service door behind me.  Luckily, I had grabbed my phone, but not my jacket.  I called a coworker had her pick me up for work that morning and bring a spare jacket.  I'm so glad I had my phone on me!

  • The only time I've been locked out was when the AC guy came to test our unit when we weren't home. We gave them the garage code (trusted them and we would just change it afterwards--he lives right next to us) and for some reason they couldn't get it to work so they turned the handle on the door to try and open it and locked us out. I never carry the house keys with me bc we always just go in and out from the garage with the door opener. I get home and its pouring rain with the baby in the back seat and I cant get out. I had to drive all the way back to my parents since my mom has a key to my house so I could get inside. I learned my lesson--always keep a set of house keys in my car/bag!

  • I used to forget my keys in middle school/ high school time to time.  Usually I could goin an unlocked window on the bottom floor.  Once, I unexpectly got my peroid, and was the wrestling manager so I REALLY NEEDED PANTS for the match.  Of course all the windows were locked, so I got a guy friend to climb on the roof to get into my bedroom window and come let me in.  My parents got 3 phone calls about a guy breaking in.  Yea, got in trouble for that.

I locked my apartment keys in the laundry room once, that sucked, but the office was open.

I've been good about the house so far.

  • I locked myself in the garage once, luckily we just made spare keys and had them in the garage!
  • Yep. A couple of times. Last week I took DH's truck to work to buy a piece of furniture and realized as I arrived to work that my work key is with my car keys and I'm always the first to arrive. Luckily I had come in a bit later than normal and was only waiting a few mins before a coworker came.

  • A few times when I was really young. I more frequently lock my keys in my car.

  • Yes, in college once.  One roommate lived close enough to the school that she never stayed at our house.  The other one used to go home to work every weekend.

I stayed at the guy I was dating's house one night and was walking home in the morning, on the phone with my friend.  I had this tiny bag with my wallet and phone in it, got to my house and was dumping it and looking everywhere, like my keys would magically appear.  My landlord was understanding, but took like an hour to get to the house to let me in.  When I went out the night before, I had this feeling I was forgetting something, but just couldn't figure out what it was.
  • When I was in middle school/high school I would forget my keys everyone in a while. It hasn't happened in a long time and it will probably happen now that I posted this topic. Lol

  • Not my house. My parents house a code on the door and I always have my keys with me since my bus pass is attached to them and the door can't be locked without keys.

  • Not that I can remember. We have a keypad on our garage door at the house, so we wouldn't be able to get locked out unless it died. We're honestly really, really bad about not locking up completely.

I've been locked out of the car before, though! Quite a few times. Thankfully that can't happen now, with my new car!

  • At a minimum--twice.

    1. H and I were getting ready to head into town for the day to visit our respective parents. He accidentally dropped my keys into the snow. And his were somewhere inside the house. Landlord had to drive in and lend us a set. We did find my set in the yard after the snow melted one nicer day. On a weird side note, it took going to three different places that make key copies to get a working copy of the key for our deadbolt.

    2. Was getting ready to head to work. Keys were in my lunchbox in the house. Thankfully, one of my coworkers worked the same shift as me, so she came and picked me up. H ran me back to the house during our lunch break to get my set.
