GTKY

The intro post below made me think, there is just a small group of us here and we don't really talk about anything other than food!  Maybe a little GTKY post might be fun

-Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)

-What do you do for a living?

-Do you have any kids/pets?

-How old are you?

-How long have you been married (if you are)?

-When did you start learning to cook?

That's all i can think of for now, but feel free to add more questions!

-Nope to both.  We're not pet people and kids are a few years away
    -26 years old
    -Little over a year
-I've been cooking with my mom and our close family friend as young as I can remember.  There are pictures of me with our family friend spreading pizza sauce when I was 3.  I've always cooked (seriously used to make dinner when I was 10 for my family for fun), but I've actively been reading about cooking techniques and trying new recipes constantly for the past 6 or 7 years.  I find cooking to be very creative and relaxing.  People think my job is creative and relaxing, but I suppose when you do anything as a job, it gets stressful and chore-like.
  • We have a few Northeast ladies here!
  • -Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)
I'm originally from the SF Bay Area, but now live in Los Angeles.
-What do you do for a living?
    I am a non-profit fundraiser.
    -Do you have any kids/pets?
No kids yet. We have two cats, both about 4 years old.
    -How old are you?
    28
-How long have you been married (if you are)?
4 years. We're in the 2010 club, it seems like there are a few of us on here.
-When did you start learning to cook?
I have lots of fond memories of my grandmother cooking and baking when I was younger, but never really got to learn to cook with her. She started showing signs of dementia when I was in my early teens. I also have memories of my mom cooking and baking a lot when I was younger, but she started a business when I was in middle/high school and hasn't really done a lot of cooking since then. Although, she is starting to get back into it more now that I am getting into it and we can share recipes and tips.

Honestly, a few years ago when I was in grad school DH and I were on a pretty tight budget and grocery shopping was pretty much the only shopping we did. I would get really excited about meal planning, shopping and trying to keep everything on budget. Around the same time we decided to try to live a healthier lifestyle and I really enjoyed the challenge of creating healthy meals that were also economical.

    Happy belated birthday @GABride2010

  • Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)
    I'm up in Canada! Ontario.

What do you do for a living?
    I work at a university.

    Do you have any kids/pets?
Not yet, although we are super close to getting a puppy! The momma-dog is getting an ultrasound in the next couple of days.

    How old are you?
    27

How long have you been married (if you are)?
    7 whole months!

When did you start learning to cook?
My family rarely ate out so cooking just sort of happened. The DH and I love cooking together, it's essentially a hobby.  We are pretty health conscious so we both love knowing exactly what's in our food. If it can be made instead of being bought we make it!

-Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)- Middle of Michigan.  Look at your right hand, I am in the middle of your palm.  :)

-What do you do for a living? I work in Human Resources for a company of about 350 people

-Do you have any kids/pets? Dog, she is a 16 year old lab chow mix.  4 NAUGHTY cats- two sets of brothers- Kalvin and Hobbes & Rue and Peta (Hunger Games)

    -How old are you? 32

-How long have you been married (if you are)? 17 days and loving every minute of it so far

-When did you start learning to cook? Within the last 5 years I have developed a love for food, the problem is that I don't do well with trying new things.  I would like to work through a cookbook, but wouldn't probably try most of what I made.

I had the gastric sleeve in January, so now my diet is high protein.  I thought cooking would be a challenge, but the only issue is I am basically cooking for 1.25 (my stomach is the size of a banana), so I try for things that will reheat well the next couple of meals.

Be the change you want to see in the world!

  • -Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)

    Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

-What do you do for a living?

    -How old are you?
    26

-How long have you been married (if you are)?
It will be 4 years this year. 11-20-10.

-When did you start learning to cook?
Childhood, my mom was a single parent and sometimes needed my help :)
  • -Where are you from? (be as specific or as vague as you wish)
I'm originally from Miami, Florida but have been living in Central Illinois for 7 years.

-What do you do for a living?
I'm currently and Administrative Assistant at a Child Care, but would love to be an entrepreneur, working on my blog from home.
    -Do you have any kids/pets?
    Neither.
    -How old are you?
    28
-How long have you been married (if you are)?
    Three months!
-When did you start learning to cook?
When I was a kid my mom always wanted me to help her cook in the kitchen. She said it was important to know for when I grew up and got married and had kids. I always preferred to watch TV, but would sometimes stand and watch her. I soaked it in over the years and when I moved out on my own at age 18 I started making simple meals.
When I started living with my husband (who is a chef) 5 years ago, I learned more. When I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic, I learned a LOT more and am grateful for it.

I'm excited to get to know you ladies on here! This is my very first post ever on The Nest! Woot!
  • Welcome to the Nest @futuremrsba!  I hope to see more of you!

-When did you start learning to cook? A little bit when we first got married, but I found out my middle child and I are allergic to wheat about 4 years ago.
