Final T&Ps for my grandpa needed *Update* :(

As many of you may remember, my 89 year old grandpa broke his hip last month and has had a roller coaster of a recovery since. A few days ago he was admitted to the hospital due to a severe bladder infection. While there, he was also diagnosed with pneumonia and MRSA.

After two days of hell, getting no sleep and being in so much pain, he decided to come off of all support and switch to comfort care. They took him off all antibiotics and put a magnet on his pacemaker/defibrillator, and are now keeping his very comfortable on pain meds until he passes.

I am both heartbroken that I am about to lose one of the strongest men I know and relieved that he will no longer be in pain. I respect his decision and now just hope his suffering and pain isn't prolonged. If you have any T&Ps to spare for a painless and quick passing, I would greatly appreciate it. As much as it pains me to see him go, I don't want him to be in pain anymore. He deserves to find peace.

  • I'm so so sorry. your whole family is in my thoughts.
  • I'm so sorry. My grandma had a similar thing happen (started with heart surgery but ended with mrsa, etc), and she also decided to come off support. If it means anything, in hindsight I'm glad to have had time with her leading up to her passing and being able to say what I wanted to. I think she lasted about a week once she came off support, maybe a bit less. It's hard to watch. Take care of yourself.

  • Thank you ladies. I do feel comforted by the fact I was able to say goodbye, and knowing he is no longer in pain is like a weight lifted off my shoulders. It's just strange feeling though, to be both devastated and relieved at the same time. A lot of weird emotions to work through right now. I appreciate you all keeping my family and I in your thoughts. It means a lot.
