XP: Recs for Northern Caribbean in November?

We are thinking of going somewhere in the Caribbean the week of Thanksgiving. Most likely the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Puerto Rico or The Bahamas since they are the closest & easiest to get to since it'll be a short trip. We are looking for somewhere for us to mostly relax on the beach, eat good food & enjoy to scenery without spending more than $200/night on a room. We are looking for a non-AI & not a resort. Does anyone have any places that they would like to recommend? Thank you.

Re: XP: Recs for Northern Caribbean in November?

  • Depends on what you are interested in. We have been doing a tropical vacation for the past 3 Thanksgivings. The first was to Costa Rica. We stayed in a bungalow on the beach for about $180 per night. They have less expensive rooms there too. Includes breakfast and dinner. It is in Montezuma on the Pacific coast in Nagoya. Not real easy to get to but there is shared transportation thru anywherecostarica.com. The place we statyed was Ylang Ylang Beach resort. Montezuma is a small town - not much to do there. We prefer isolated beaches - not really in to crowds.

The next year was more expensive than your budget. We rented a sailboat with captain and his wife who cooked. We cruised the Britich Virgin Islands. Before the trip we spent 2 days in Old San Juan. So PR is definitely a recommended choice. There is a post earlier on bucket lists and partway down the responses is someone who lives in PR with recommendations. The good thing about PR is Southwest flies there so reasonable airfare.

Last year we did Sandals in St Lucia. It was about twice your budget. But there may be other places in St Lucia that are cheaper.
